PwC, MIT, and McKinsey all dropped reports in the last twelve months. Different methodologies, same finding: ▸ 95% of enterprise AI pilots fail to deliver measurable P&L impact (MIT NANDA). ▸ Only 6% of organizations are AI "high performers" capturing meaningful EBIT (McKinsey). ▸ 42% of CEOs say their company is "stuck" — unable to unlock revenue or cost benefits (PwC). The bottleneck isn't the model. It's the discipline between the model and the income statement. That discipline has a name. It used to be called value engineering. It's exactly the work BVS did before half the industry decided AI had made it obsolete. It hasn't. AI has made it more important — not less. I wrote 1,500 words on why — anchored in all three reports — and on the four-move playbook I'd run today for an Oracle Fusion customer who wants to be in the 5% that captures value instead of the 95% that doesn't. But over time, the pattern became harder to miss: systems and people are not separate problems. A process does not perform apart from the people who use it. A platform does not create value apart from the behavior it changes. A business case does not deliver itself. Gabriel Millien— this is the right distinction. The real gap is not just learning the tools; it is knowing how the capability survives inside an operating environment.
“Who owns this when it breaks?” is exactly the kind of question that separates AI experimentation from AI adoption. Ownership, governance, workflow fit, and measurable value are where the work becomes real.

The business case cannot stop at justification. It has to carry through adoption, measurement, and value realization.

I agree completely. AI readiness should start where the business problem is already visible. That is where adoption becomes easier, because the work pain is real and the value can be measured.

Then understand what they can't teach you. A course shows you how a tool works. It never shows you where that tool fits inside an organization with real stakes. I learned execution in environments where mistakes had consequences. The gap I see most isn't a knowledge gap. It's the distance between what you build in a tutorial and what survives production. That distance is what I call the AI Execution Gap. That gap is where most careers stall. Not at the learning. So take the courses. Then ask the one question none of them cover: Who owns this when it breaks? That answer is what employers are buying. Pick three this week. Finish one by Friday. Many of my coworkers, mentors, and friends, who are some of the smartest and most hard working individuals I have had the privilege to work with, are now unemployed. I've noticed numerous posts from those who have never worked at our company, making negative remarks about the layoffs. Were they handled perfectly? Far from it. If you haven't experienced working here, STOP making unhelpful or unsupportive comments. You cannot fully understand what it’s like to work for this company. If your intention is to gain attention or drive traffic to your site, please STOP. It's WRONG to exploit the unfortunate circumstances of others. Instead, focus on sharing posts that provide real opportunities and supportive messages. To my coworkers who have been directly impacted, I will continue to share opportunities, and to those I’ve personally worked with, I will continue to reach out. Deciding which department head gets their AI project first, holding the political line when a VP wants their pet pilot pulled forward, and surviving the Q3 board review still requires a senior operator who has actually run a transformation.
