Technology has become a cornerstone in modern education, playing a crucial role in student success. The pandemic provided K–12 school districts with essential funding to equip students with devices, to enhance educational outcomes. However, as these devices are now five years old, school leaders are confronted with the challenge of refreshing them without the same financial support. This situation has sparked a growing interest in innovative funding models, such as Device-as-a-Service, aimed at maintaining access to reliable technology for students. The primary objective is clear: ensure students have the necessary technology tools to continue their learning journey, without straining already tight budgets. Technology in education is a vital component that supports interactive and personalized learning, fosters engagement, and prepares students for a digital future. Access to new technology not only future-proofs education for upcoming AI applications but also ensures that students can actively participate in digital classrooms, tap into a wealth of online resources, and develop essential skills. These skills are crucial for their academic success and future professional endeavors.

Earlier this month at #ISTE2025, I caught up with the always-inspiring Mark Sparvell, B.Ed. , M.Ed. to share what we were hearing in our conversations with educators, school leaders, and partners. We heard powerful stories of how AI is transforming education today—streamlining district operations, giving teachers precious time back, and personalizing learning to help every student shine. As a mom, I’ve seen how personalized learning through Microsoft Reading Coach has helped my son grow in confidence and curiosity 💙 My hope? That every child, everywhere, gets the same opportunity to thrive with the support of AI-powered learning tools. Want to explore further? Justin Wenig 💫dropped some truth on the Edtech Insiders pod. Here are 10 juicy nuggets about the state of selling into K12 and Higher Education. Go out and give it a listen. https://lnkd.in/egJGQBEs 1. 𝐊12 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐄𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐟𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐛𝐫𝐨𝐤𝐞𝐧 -It's opaque, bureaucratic, and heavily favors incumbents. -The RFP process is often performative: 90% of RFPs are written with a specific vendor in mind. 2. 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 -Unlike federal contracts (via sam.gov), local education agencies don’t publish procurement data. -Access often requires thousands of FOIA requests, making it inaccessible to most small or new vendors. 3. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐤 -Universities/Districts face no upside for trying new solutions and only risk scrutiny if they fail. 4. 𝐒𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐛𝐲 𝐆𝐓𝐌 𝐞𝐱𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭 𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 -The best-performing EdTech startups prioritize outbound sales. -“How many targeted emails and calls did you make in the past 10 days?” is a more important metric than NPS or even early product usage. 5. 𝐀𝐯𝐨𝐢𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐬 -"Too bespoke" trap: Founders who believe only handwritten emails and warm intros work fail to scale. -"Spray and pray" trap: Founders who blast generic emails fail to resonate with districts. 6. 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 “𝐮𝐧𝐰𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧 𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐠𝐞” 𝐨𝐟 𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐬 -Think: cooperative purchasing contracts, state-approved vendor lists (e.g., TX DIR), and the nuances of risk aversion and purchasing cycles. 7. 𝐎𝐮𝐭𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 + 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐆𝐓𝐌 𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 -Nearly every successful EdTech company starts with these two pillars. 8. 𝐕𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐦𝐞 + 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 = 𝐒𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 -Automate lead scoring and outreach with tools like Starbridge that surface “warm” prospects using real buying intent signals (e.g., mentions in council minutes, grants awarded). -Personalization needs to be specific, localized, and reference actual events. 9. 𝐀𝐈 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐮𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐥 -Future GTM orgs will need go-to-market engineers—people who blend data, sales ops, and AI. -AI will increasingly automate: Campaign generation, Prospect targeting, RFP responses, Conference planning and follow-up 10. 𝐒𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐬 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐧 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐬 -AI handles implementation; humans must still drive ideation, empathy, and storytelling. -Strong GTM orgs will enable reps to spend more time listening and less time clicking.
