After 15 years in the Philippines BPO industry—one of the largest and most dynamic in the world—I’ve seen this sector transform in ways that are nothing short of remarkable.   Today’s BPO landscape is a far cry from its telemarketing origins. For the past year, the dominant narrative has been that AI will replace contact center outsource providers like Centris. What I am seeing tells a different story. Since the start of this year, three separate AI companies have approached me to partner with our BPO. Not to compete, but to work together. One wants us to resell their AI solutions into our existing enterprise relationships. Another wants us to handle integration, deployment, & change management because they do not have the operational teams to support large scale implementations. And one was simply offering a referral model with revenue share. This isn't disruption, it's convergence. Building AI is one challenge. Embedding it into a complex, global contact center operation is another. AI companies are strong in product & engineering. BPOs are strong in execution, workforce management, enterprise trust, & operational redesign. What is emerging is not AI versus BPO. It is AI + BPO. The forward thinking BPOs are not asking how to protect headcount. They are redesigning the model, moving from selling seats to orchestrating human & AI workflows. From labor arbitrage to outcome driven delivery. AI vendors do not want to build massive service organizations. Enterprises do not want fragmented accountability. There is a natural synergy here. In the U.S., we tend to move fast, keep things task-focused, and assume that compensation is the main motivator. But here? The small stuff matters. A lot. A check-in. A “thank you.” A little visibility from leadership. Filipino teams notice these things. And when they feel seen and valued? They give it their all. Not out of obligation, but because you’ve built trust. And once you’ve earned that trust, it shows up in the work: ▶️ Teams anticipate what’s needed instead of waiting for instructions ▶️ They collaborate better, even under pressure ▶️ They stick around longer and help grow the business with you This kind of loyalty isn’t just tenure. It’s bought-in, high-performing, culture-carrying loyalty, and it's one of the biggest assets of building in the Philippines. But only if you lead with intention.
