Just got back from an amazing day in Washington, D.C. with Heather Reilly at the AI summit. We know AI needs energy and the Trump administration’s AI Action Plan will help America invest in the much-needed infrastructure to support AI development and growth.   Great to hear from leaders in both the private and public sectors about the future of AI in America, which centered around three key themes:   1) Partnerships: Collaborating across sectors to maximize AI’s value.    2) Infrastructure: Building the right foundation to support data centers as new AI models emerge.    3) Education: Preparing the workforce for the future by upskilling and creating new roles powered by AI.   With our alliances, Deloitte is helping public and private sector organizations navigate this groundbreaking transformation and implement impactful AI solutions.   I left the day thinking about how collaboration across sectors and industries is essential. AI is a powerful engine for economic growth, and working together is the ultimate force multiplier.

⚠️ When sales oversell, delivery pays the price. I’ve seen this pattern time and time again in the Identity Governance (IGA) space, and it’s beyond frustrating. Too often, operational engineers are asked to do the impossible — when in reality, all they can do is clean up the mess left behind by a sales team that oversold capabilities they didn’t fully understand. And it doesn’t stop with IGA. In ERP, CRM, HCM, and other enterprise transformations, the pattern repeats: • Sales teams oversell capabilities of both their people and the technology • Promises of “fast, out-of-the-box” deployments set unrealistic expectations • Delivery architects and engineers inherit an unstable foundation, forced to make impossible timelines work • As deadlines loom, vendor pressure mounts: “Go live now, fix later” • The result? Change orders, operational disruption, and sometimes lawsuits The real solution? Bring delivery and operational engineers into the sales cycle. ✔️ Delivery architects ground promises in technical reality ✔️ Engineers highlight product gaps before they become multimillion-dollar surprises ✔️ Clients walk into transformation with eyes wide open—knowing the real cost, timeline, and risks Zimmer Biomet’s $172M lawsuit against Deloitte over an ERP rollout is just the latest high-profile example of what happens when these lessons are ignored. Interesting piece by my friend Atta on how AI may change the hiring practices (and incoming class sizes) of consulting firms. I'm not as bearish on the impact of AI just replacing people. Like any other disruptive technology of the past, AI will create new opportunities to generate even more value. What is true though is that the traditional value proposition and role of entry level consultants will change dramatically, and consulting firms will have to think hard about the long term impact, rather than just looking for the short-term cost savings potential. Once you have a hole in your pyramid, you won't be able to correct for that down the road. That said, entry level class sizes may need to come down, and consulting firms may be even more deliberate and selective in the hiring process because they cannot use the sheer volume of entry-level consultant classes to serve as a filter for future partner roles.
