🎯 Applying for a role in games? I have received hundreds of inquiries over the past several weeks and months asking how to get your resume noticed. I cannot respond to every inquiry as much as I try, so I wanted to make sure I am setting you up for success. Here are a few resume tips that can help your application stand out — and actually get seen: First: We don’t use AI parsers or keyword-scanning tools to filter resumes — every resume is reviewed by hand. So it is important to keep it simple, clear, and accessible. ✅ Put your best stuff first Lead with your most relevant work experience or education (whichever is stronger) — don’t make the reviewer dig for it. There is a growing trend of listing oldest experience first, but unless there’s a strategic reason for it, keep your most recent work at the top. ❌ Skip the photos & QR codes Photos are more suited for CVs — and unless you’re applying for a modeling or acting role, they’re just not needed. If you must include one, make it a professional headshot (not a selfie from your last con — as cool as those are). And QR codes? These are often used with in lieu of a URL or Portfolio link. with rising identity theft risks, many people will not scan them. 🎨 Creative role? Include a working portfolio Applying for a creative position? A portfolio is a must. Double-check that your hyperlinks work and passwords (if needed) are included. Broken links = missed opportunity. 📝 Cover letters or summaries =🥇 Especially if you're changing industries, applying for something niche, or your background isn’t a perfect match. It’s your chance to showcase transferable skills, industry knowledge, or simply share your why. Pro tip: I read them all. 📄 Word vs. PDF? Go PDF. Word docs are fine, but in 2025, saving your resume as a PDF (File > Save As > PDF) protects your formatting and info. I won’t hold it against you either way — but some recruiters and hiring leaders will. 📁 Name your file like a pro Avoid submitting files titled just resume.docx. Use your name — it’s a small thing that makes a big difference when sharing with teams: Example: JoshuaForrest_Resume_2025.pdf The job hunt isn’t always easy — but small details can make a big impact. You've got this! 🎮 #ResumeTips #GamingJobs #CreativeCareers #GameIndustry #JobSearch #CareerAdvice #RecruiterTips

Hey everyone! 👋 I’m genuinely blown away by the reception and virality of the first post in the LVN Gameplay Programming Showcase. Thank you to everyone who read, shared, and reached out. I wasn’t expecting that kind of response, and it’s been incredibly motivating. Time for LVN Gameplay Programming Showcase 02: Third Person Movement : Jumping [Unity, Unreal C++ and Unreal Blueprints] Get ready for Luis's acrobatics! (Yes, the Mixamo player model. And yes, I’m keeping the name.) Instead of simply adding a jump mechanic like I’ve done in past projects, I decided to give this one a twist. The entire system is animation-based, meaning the actual jump and flip (double jump) forces are triggered by keyframe events inside the animations rather than code-first logic. This gave me the opportunity to practice event integration between gameplay and animation timing, and I’m really happy with how it turned out. This entry builds directly on the Base Mobility system (01): https://lnkd.in/d-hDqjd2 Key Features: - Jump buffering for responsive input - Flip (double jump) available mid-air if enabled - Jump and flip force triggered via animation notifies (Unreal) or animation events (Unity) - Smooth state transitions between jump, fall, flip and land - Velocity reset before flip to ensure consistent launch height - Fully synchronized with Mixamo animations - Customizable parameters including (among others) jump force, flip force, buffer timing, gravity scale (Unreal), air control (Unreal), ground detection (Unity), and double jump toggle GitHub (Scripts and Screenshots): https://lnkd.in/d-MnKtdb As always, I welcome feedback and suggestions. Feel free to reach out if you see something that could be improved or approached differently. Thanks again for the support ^^

GDC Game Industry '26 report is a wake-up call? Or is it a roadmap for us to act now? Because this isn’t “normal volatility.” It’s a talent emergency. - 1 in 4 professionals laid off in past 2 years - 74% of students worried about entering the industry - 52% say genAI is harming the industry - 82% support unionization For me these aren’t just stats. They’re a signal that something is breaking. If we don’t change, we repeat the loop: hire fast → crunch hard → cut deep. Shall we make 2026 a rebuild year? Full report link in comments 👇

Get all 100 Unity Tips in your email: https://lnkd.in/g68tMiaT You most know these quick tips! Perfomance Matters! 🔸 MH 1: Use StringBuilder for String Operations String concatenation with += creates a brand new string object every time! In loops, this generates massive garbage collection overhead. StringBuilder modifies the same memory space, eliminating these allocations and dramatically improving performance for text-heavy operations. 🔸 MH 2: TryGetValue for Dictionaries Using ContainsKey followed by dictionary access performs TWO lookups for a single value! TryGetValue performs just one operation, making dictionary access far more efficient. This seemingly small change can have a huge impact in data-heavy games when dictionaries are accessed frequently. 🔸 MH 3: Minimize Debug.Log in Builds Debug logs run in release builds by default - slowing down your game and potentially leaking sensitive information! Wrapping logs in UNITY_EDITOR conditionals ensures they only run during development. This prevents unnecessary string processing and file operations in your final build. 🔸 MH 4: Object Pool over Instantiate/Destroy Instantiating and destroying objects constantly hammers both CPU and garbage collector. Object pooling pre-creates objects and recycles them, eliminating runtime allocations. Essential for bullets, particles, enemies, or any frequently created/destroyed objects in your game! 🔸 MH 5: RaycastNonAlloc vs RaycastAlloc Standard Physics.Raycast creates new arrays with every call - devastating in "hot loops" that run every frame! RaycastNonAlloc reuses the same pre-allocated array, completely eliminating these allocations. This technique is critical for games with frequent physics checks, like shooters or racing games. ⚠️ PS: Some tips may seem trivial when it comes to performance, but small perfomance practices have a compounding benefit. *** 🔖Get all Unreal Cheat Sheets in your email 🔗Link: https://lnkd.in/gA5hxaji All Unity's Cheat Sheets 🔗Link: https://lnkd.in/gZ7xUH33 Game Dev Quizzes 🔗Link: https://lnkd.in/gzsG79Mq Learn Game Dev with Outscal by building 20+ Game Projects. 🔗Link: https://lnkd.in/gUQk_FBv Mayank, Mridul, Malhar, Aryan, Aryan Saxena #Unity #GameDev #Optimization #GamePerformance #MobileDev

I was asked a few questions for this article, "How to Get a Degree in Game Design" by U.S. News & World Report. Here's what I discussed. ---------- >> How to Tell if a Game Design Career Is a Good Fit Sang Nam, a computer game design professor at George Mason, says game design is more like a “marathon than a sprint.” Students who can cultivate a creative vision and have the resilience to rebuild and rethink to create the best product should consider entering the career field, he says. “A strong indicator that a game design career may be right for you is your ability to experience and sustain what psychologists call the flow state – an optimal zone of engagement where you're fully immersed, energized and intrinsically motivated,” Nam wrote in an email. “If you’ve found yourself lost in time while imagining how to make a game more enjoyable or how to refine a player’s experience, you’re already thinking like a game designer.” >>The Value of a Game Design Degree A good game design program offers students a robust design foundation, allowing them to try classes in animation, production and storytelling while also being able to specialize in a particular skill, Nam says. “Ultimately, the value of a game design degree is best assessed not only by its academic credentials, but by how effectively it prepares students to innovate, adapt, and thrive in an ever-evolving interactive media landscape,” Nam says. “There are places in the country that really do a great job preparing students," Nam says. "But if you're in the middle of South Dakota or Southeast Ohio, versus being out on the West Coast," it's often harder to find viable in-person programs despite some exceptions, he suggests. >> Misconceptions About Game Design Careers “Game development requires a distinct and rigorous set of skills, including systems thinking, collaboration, technical proficiency and creative problem-solving,” Nam says. “The process of designing, coding, testing, and refining interactive systems is far more complex than simply enjoying gameplay.” This article can be found at: https://lnkd.in/e5nHmtbN
