The New Africa Fund’s Africa Impact Fundraising (AIF) Grant Program helps African NGOs, CBOs, and social enterprises build strong local fundraising capacity. Through training, a 30-day fundraising challenge, matching funds, intensive workshops, and fiscal sponsorship, the program strengthens financial sustainability and expands access to new funding pathways. It is open to legally registered organisations in all 55 African Union member states. The Africa Impact Fundraising (AIF) Grant Program, launched by the New Africa Fund, is designed to strengthen the long-term fundraising capacity of African NGOs, community-based organisations, and social enterprises. The program blends training, practical fundraising experience, matched funding, and mentorship into one structured pathway for sustainable growth. Several grantmakers, including EGA members, are responding to the challenges of this moment by implementing practices to better support their grantees. From a shift in funding strategies to rapid response initiatives, here are several key practices shaping the sector: • Stepping up Payout levels: Several foundations have now announced increases in their grant payout levels, including EGA members, Freedom Together Foundation, MacArthur Foundation and TransitCenter. This move supports grantees and nonprofits amid funding challenges. • New Grant Initiatives to Respond to the Moment: Foundations, including EGA member, The Boston Foundation, have announced rapid response grants. Philanthropic rapid response initiatives span support for movement building, legal defense, and sustaining the essential needs of the most impacted communities. • Streamlining Processes and Providing Unrestricted Support: Grantmakers are building more equitable partnerships by reducing challenging grantmaking requirements.
