Marc Mencher shared this"Hire from anywhere" sounds like the dream, but for many studios, the "Remote Work Paradox" is costing them their best talent. The reality? Local tax laws and complex compliance hurdles can turn a perfect hire into an expensive nightmare. Often, by the time legal clears the path, your top candidate has already moved on. In the fast-paced gaming industry, these administrative headaches are project-killers. At Game Recruiter, our leadership team actually made games before moving into talent acquisition. We provide "surgical recruitment" that goes beyond finding names: we help you navigate the logistical red tape of building a world-class, global team. Don't let red tape snap your talent pipeline. Let’s make "hire anywhere" a reality for your studio, minus the compliance migraine. https://lnkd.in/en6mK_md #GameDev #Recruitment #RemoteWork #GameRecruiter
-
Marc Mencher shared thisIn the gaming industry, talent scarcity isn't just a buzzword: it’s a launch-day risk. When you have a critical role to fill, you need more than a recruiter. You need a partner who knows what it’s like to be in the trenches of a development cycle. At Game Recruiter, our surgical advantage is simple: we are game makers recruiting game makers. Our leadership team has actually built, developed, and launched titles. We don’t just scan for keywords; we understand the deep technical skills and the unique grit required to cross the finish line in one of the world’s most competitive markets. We specialize in those unadvertised, high-stakes positions that your studio simply must fill ASAP. Because we’ve been there, we see the talent others miss. Ready to find your next critical hire? Let’s talk. #GameDev #GamingIndustry #TalentAcquisition #GameRecruiter
-
Marc Mencher shared thisThe "Prompt Engineering" fad is over. In 2026, typing a few keywords into a box isn't a competitive advantage: it's the baseline. The real game-changer? Pipeline Orchestration. Studios today don't just need people who can talk to AI. They need Technical Directors who can build the infrastructure where AI tools actually work for the team, not against them. We’re talking about engineers who can bridge the gap between complex tech and high-end art to create seamless, automated workflows that let creators focus on what they do best: making great games. Finding the rare talent that understands both the architecture of AI and the nuances of game production is where we excel. At Game Recruiter, our leadership team comes from the front lines of game development, so we know exactly what a "critical hire" looks like for your studio. If you're ready to move beyond the hype and start building the future of your production pipeline, let's talk. #GameDev #AIPipeline #TechnicalDirector #GameRecruiter
-
Marc Mencher shared this85% of game studios have dropped degree requirements. So why is it still so hard to find the right talent? 🎓❌ Removing the barrier is only half the battle. The real challenge is identifying the self-taught legends and non-traditional experts who are actually doing the work. The talent is out there; you just need a different way to look for it. #Hiring #GameDev #EdTech #Recruitment
-
Marc Mencher shared thisThinking about saving on your next Studio Head hire? Beware of the "Inexperienced Leadership Trap." In the high-stakes world of game development, "cheap" leadership often results in millions in technical debt, missed milestones, and fractured teams. When you are navigating the complexities of a major launch, you do not just need a body in the seat: you need a seasoned captain who has weathered these storms before. At Game Recruiter, we do not just filter resumes; we perform surgical recruitment for proven leaders. Our own leadership team didn't just start in HR: we have built and launched games ourselves. We know the difference between someone who can talk the talk and someone who can actually guide a studio through the turbulence of scaling. Do not let your project sink under the weight of avoidable mistakes. Invest in leadership that knows the way. #GameDev #StudioLeadership #TechDebt #GameRecruiter
-
Marc Mencher shared this70% of the most critical roles in gaming never hit a job board. They’re filled behind the scenes, through trust and deep industry networks. This is the "Hidden Talent Pool." When a hire is mission-critical, strategically sensitive, or requires a very specific "surgical" fit, a public listing is often too slow or attracts the wrong noise. This is where Surgical Recruitment makes the difference. At Game Recruiter, our leadership team didn't start in HR: we started in the trenches of game development. We’ve built, developed, and launched titles ourselves. This gives us a level of industry trust and access to unadvertised talent that a standard database search simply can't match. We specialize in connecting studios with the high-impact professionals who aren't actively looking but are exactly who you need to cross the finish line. If you’re looking for that critical hire that must be right the first time, let’s talk about how our network can become your greatest asset. #GameRecruitment #GamingIndustry #TalentAcquisition #ExecutiveSearch
-
Marc Mencher shared thisIn 2026, technical brilliance is no longer enough to lead a world-class dev team. The real project bottleneck isn't the code: it's the communication breakdown in a remote environment. We've moved beyond the era where soft skills were just a "nice-to-have." For remote multidisciplinary leads, Emotional Intelligence (EQ) is now a core technical requirement. Managing a team across time zones and screens requires more than just tracking tickets; it requires the ability to read between the lines of a digital message and navigate complex human dynamics without being in the same room. At Game Recruiter, we use a surgical vetting process to identify leads who possess the high-level EQ necessary to prevent friction and keep project velocity high. We don't just look at what they’ve built; we look at how they lead people through the pressure of a launch cycle. Is your leadership team equipped to bridge the humanity gap? #GameDev #RemoteLeadership #EQ #GameRecruiter
-
Marc Mencher shared thisAI optimizes code and generates assets, but it cannot replicate human intuition. It lacks the gut feeling of a Lead Designer who knows exactly why a level feels "off," or the steady hand of a Studio Head during a high-stakes global launch. As AI prevalence grows, the "Humanity Gap" widens. True innovation, studio culture, and creative vision are built on human experience: and in today’s market, veteran talent is more valuable than ever. At Game Recruiter, we bridge this gap. Our leadership team didn’t just start in recruitment; we actually made games. Having developed and launched titles ourselves, we possess a unique, first-hand understanding of the critical-hire positions that define a company’s success. When your project needs more than just a placeholder, we connect you with the vision and proven expertise that AI simply cannot replace. Let’s find the veterans who will build your next masterpiece. #GameDev #GamingIndustry #ExecutiveSearch #TalentAcquisition https://lnkd.in/enFATv8q

Where did this “tag me on Instagram for audition” culture come from? Seriously. Since when did acting auditions turn into social media giveaways? You see a serious casting call and then somewhere at the bottom: “Tag me on Instagram.” “Follow this page.” “Repost on your story.” “Comment done.” Done? Done what exactly? Acting is a profession. Not a raffle draw. An audition is supposed to be about performance, preparation, emotional intelligence, screen presence, discipline and talent. Not who can drag the most traffic to a page. And before people say, “It’s promotion,” let’s be honest — there’s a difference between marketing a project and turning actors into unpaid social media marketers before they even get considered. Some actors spend years studying this craft. Imagine reducing all that work to: “Tag 5 people.” What are we really rewarding now? Talent or algorithms? Social media is important, yes. Visibility matters, yes. But when follower engagement starts becoming part of casting culture, the industry slowly shifts from artistry to attention seeking. That’s dangerous because the loudest person in the room is not always the best actor. The old system had problems too, no doubt but at least auditions used to feel like professionals looking for performers not admins chasing engagement. Maybe I’m old school but I still believe actors should be chosen because they can move people on screen not because they can increase impressions on Instagram. Please do have your say.

“To SAG-AFTRA or not to SAG-AFTRA, that is the question.” (Yes, I went full Shakespeare.) Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about what it actually means to become a union actor. On the surface, joining SAG-AFTRA feels like crossing a threshold. From working actor to official actor. There’s real power in it: minimum pay, legal protection, residuals, health and pension benefits, and access to major studio projects. But here’s where it gets more complicated... SAG-AFTRA members are bound by Global Rule One; you can only work on union-approved projects. That means no non-union work, even internationally. For actors based in Europe or working globally, that can become a major barrier. A SAG-AFTRA membership doesn’t automatically “translate” across borders, and not every European production falls under union jurisdiction. So, paradoxically, joining might limit the international flexibility you had before. As a non-member, there’s more room to move. You can work both union and non-union jobs. And if you’re cast in a union production, the team can file a Taft-Hartley report on your behalf, basically stating: “this actor brings something essential to the role.” That gives you the green light to work on that job even without being a member. But… you only get this three times! After three union jobs under Taft-Hartley, you're no longer eligible to work SAG-AFTRA gigs without officially joining. It’s a clever system. Open the door just enough, then invite you (strongly) to stay in. So here I am, in that space between flexibility and structure. On one hand, I value the freedom to work on independent and international projects. On the other hand, there’s no denying the legitimacy and security that SAG-AFTRA offers. If you're a fellow actor, especially a non-US-based one, how have you navigated this? And for those who joined: what was your tipping point? To those still riding the Taft-Hartley wave; did those gigs feel like stepping stones or subtle ultimatums? This decision isn’t just about contracts. It’s about career strategy, creative freedom, and long-term positioning. I’d love to hear your thoughts! #actorlife #sagaftra #nonunion #tafthartley #filmmaking #careerchoices #internationalactors #creativefreedom #actorsjourney

Viva Benito! – The Definitive Bad Bunny Tribute Party -- delivers a high-impact, arena-style celebration inspired by global superstar Bad Bunny — combining explosive choreography, live reggaetón musicianship, and cutting-edge production into one unforgettable night. More than a tribute act, Viva Benito is neither an impersonator show nor a look-alike act. The focus isn’t on imitation – it’s on experience. From the moment the lights drop, audiences are pulled into a nonstop celebration fueled by Latin rhythms, dynamic dancers, crowd interaction, and visual spectacle. The production captures the rebellious spirit of the iconic line, “I can do whatever I want,” transforming each venue into a pulsating reggaetón takeover. This immersive party experience is designed to drive ticket sales, boost bar revenue, and energize diverse demographics. Built with theatrical production values and concert-level staging, the show recreates the electricity of a Bad Bunny stadium performance while remaining scalable for theaters, casinos, festivals, and corporate events. What sets Viva Benito apart in the tribute marketplace is its commitment to surprise and spectacle. Each performance includes elevated production elements and rotating special features — because with Viva Benito, “You’ll never know who’s going to show up.” Surprise guest appearances, interactive segments, and evolving set pieces ensure repeat attendance and strong word-of-mouth momentum. Says Amber Hansen, BiCoastal’s President of National Touring, “Viva Benito appeals to a powerful and growing live-event demographic: 18–45 Latin and crossover pop audiences, high-energy dance music fans, bilingual and multicultural markets, casino and festival buyers seeking late-night engagement. It has been designed to drive ticket sales, boost bar revenue, and energize diverse demographics.” Adds producer Bill Ciaramelli, “Viva Benito was created to meet the explosive demand for a premium Latin urban tribute experience in the U.S. market. With world-class vocalists, elite dancers, and a concert-grade production team, the show delivers a high-energy, brand-conscious experience that honors the music and movement of a generation. Our show is a full-on Bad Bunny party, unmatched anywhere in the nation. Every performance is a non-stop fiesta, where fans become part of the celebration. Are you struggling with your Demo Reel? Try this. Aaron McGriff is now teaching on www.anim.works If you do not know Aaron, he has spent 20+ years as a feature animator, including a long run at Pixar on films you have already seen. He runs the CGRIFF channel and quietly drops some of the most useful animation knowledge on YouTube and LinkedIn. His first masterclass for us is live this week: the Animation Demo Reel Bootcamp. Nearly three hours of teardown on what makes a film grade reel land, what to cut, and the choices most animators get wrong before they hit record on a playblast. If film work is what you are aiming for, watch this one before you queue up another shot. A second, deeper masterclass with Aaron is already in production. Four more drops this week: Animate Suite for Blender, by David Hallows . A serious animator focused toolkit for the graph editor and beyond. There is a 30 minute walkthrough on the page so you can see how far it goes before you commit. Four standalone Maya plugins by Thibault Pansiot , sold separately so you can buy only the one you need: • 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿, for cleaner constraints that do not break your animation. • 𝗙𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗖𝗮𝗺, one click camera follow on any controller. A lifesaver for cinematics and long walk cycles. • 𝗜𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗥𝗲𝗳, image plane on a camera in seconds instead of ten clicks deep in the attribute editor. • 𝗦𝗻𝗮𝗽 𝗧𝗼𝗼𝗹, one of those small tools you install once and never animate without. The Pokemon rigs competition is also still running this month on the forums. Badges, prizes, community submissions. The "Fractional Executive" is becoming the secret weapon for scaling studios. Not every studio needs a full-time, high-cost C-suite member from day one, but every studio needs executive-level strategy. Hiring "fractional" leadership allows studios to access top-tier talent for critical growth phases without the overhead. It’s the ultimate surgical recruitment move for the modern, agile studio. #GamingIndustry #Startups #Leadership #FractionalExec #GameRecruiter

What are the numbers for the SAG-AFTRA Vertical Programs Agreement? SAG-AFTRA has officially recognized vertical programs and built a framework specifically for them. Here’s what stands out to me: Pay Rates (Per Day) • Lead Performers: $250 • Supporting Roles: $164 • Background/Stand-Ins: $144 • Stunt Coordinators: per standard SAG-AFTRA TV rates -Overtime: 9th–10th hour = 1.5×, 10+ hours = 2× -Budget Cap: $300K (or $350K if you hire SAG background talent) -No deferred pay: everyone gets paid on time -AI & Digital Replica Protections: You can’t replace human performers with AI without consent -Residuals: None if budget < $25K per finished minute This is more than a contract, it’s an acknowledgment that the vertical era has arrived. It validates the kind of work many of us have been doing on instinct and passion and it brings structure, protection, and professionalism in this multi-billion dollar industry. Do you see vertical content as a stepping stone to bigger screens or the future of storytelling? How do you think these SAG-AFTRA minimums will affect independent producers trying to stay lean but fair? Could this agreement finally open the door for union-approved microdramas that reach global audiences? For those of us who have been quietly building in this space, this is a signal. Hollywood is watching. The audience is ready. And the creators who adapt now will define the next wave. Let’s talk about where this is all headed and how we can build it right. #VerticalDrama #Microdrama #SAGAFTRA #MobileContent #Filmmaking #NewMedia #IndieFilm #Storytelling #ReelShort #Dramabox #VisionaryFilmmaking

I've been thinking a lot about this idea that we need to resist tech's "takeover" of our industry. For me, when we frame tech (Al) as an invader, it positions Hollywood purely as a victim/defender, rather than as an agent of its own transformation, which in turn limits our agency. Hollywood could co-create integration terms. But, the reality is that Hollywood isn't yet fluent enough in Al to meaningfully participate in setting terms (on the whole). To claim authorship over Al's role in entertainment, we must first become fluent in it. For me, this continues to remain a literacy issue. You can't make sense of a thing you simply don't understand.

🎭 Daily Acting Challenge 🎭 Title: The Objective Pursuit Technique: Stanislavsky System Description: This challenge helps you define a clear character objective and the obstacles that stand in its way, bringing depth and drive to your performance. Steps: 1. Choose a simple, everyday task as your scene (e.g., trying to leave the house, making a cup of coffee, finding your phone). 2. Clearly define your character's ONE compelling objective for this task (e.g., 'I must leave NOW or I'll miss my flight,' 'I need this coffee to wake up and ace this interview'). 3. Introduce a significant obstacle: something tangible or internal preventing immediate success (e.g., keys are missing, coffee machine is broken, you're incredibly distracted by a worried thought). 4. Perform the scene for 3-5 minutes, focusing intensely on achieving your objective despite the obstacle; allow your choices and emotions to be driven by this conflict. 5. Reflect on how the obstacle intensified your character's need and drove your actions; consider recording this for your personal growth or even a short reel entry. Goal: To activate your character's will and demonstrate how obstacles fuel determination and reveal character.

In today’s game industry, no great title is made in isolation. External development isn’t just about outsourcing; it's about unlocking global creativity, scaling smart, and tapping into global talent and forming true partnerships that make a difference. Sony Pictures Animation in collaboration with Yellowbrick have launched a free online course for animation fundamentals. I signed-up! Checking it out now. Here's the rub. The opening line in the advert states, "Anyone can work in animation. All you need is passion for creativity and storytelling." That is a wildly naive oversell of where we're at as an industry. Veterans with 5, 10, 20, and even 30 years of experience are having a hard time finding ANY work right now. So, is this a good thing that there's a free online course? YES. Is the marketing out-of-step with current conditions and tone deaf to the struggles of actual professionals? Also, YES. #animation #cartoons

🎯 Strategy Note for FEC Operators: The modern guest is losing faith in fun. That’s our opening - if we don’t blow it. Here’s what “leisure” looks like for the average person today: 🎮 AAA Games – You thought the cost of entry was low ($500 console, $2500 gaming rig outdated after 24 months) – $70 pre-order for a game that’s still broken at launch – $500 graphics card… if you can find one – Hours of updates before you can even play – And the game? Delayed, buggy, or soulless 🎢 Theme Parks – $100+ tickets – Half the rides offline – Long queues, rushed ops, overpriced food – You leave sunburnt and underwhelmed 🕹 Local FECs – Machines that look 8 years old – Sticky guns, jammed buttons – Staff doing time, not delivering joy – Layout feels like a retail clearance sale with neon So what happens? Guests opt out. Not just from one location—from the entire category of fun. And that’s where FECs can win. Not by copying games or theme parks. But by being the first place that still delivers. ✅ Instant fun, no download ✅ Worlds that work ✅ Hosts that see you ✅ A space you want to come back to Strategic Moves That Matter: Audit for friction like it’s a threat to survival Maintain like pride is on the line Curate joy, don’t stack machines Elevate staff to cast—train for impact, not presence Design for return play, not just redemptions The problem isn’t that guests don’t care anymore. It’s that too many industries trained them to lower expectations. FECs still have a window to be the last-mile heroes of joy. But only if they refuse to settle. Don’t blow it. 👾
