Launch day! 🚀 After weeks of planning, polishing, coordinating, and pulling all the threads together (as us comms folks do!), our newest labor market report is officially live. Candidly, in my role, I help to launch a number of labor market-centric reports throughout a quarter, but this one is special because of the level of detail it provides, the scope that’s the covered and in particular...the opportunity it highlights. Here’s some of the top findings I wanted to share with my community: 🪄 Jobs in the “new‑collar” era have arrived: Over 1.3M new AI‑enabled roles have emerged globally, blending increased technical fluency with human strengths. 🌎 The AI infrastructure boom is fueling opportunity (beyond the coastal hubs!): Last year alone we saw ~600K new data‑center jobs come onto LinkedIn -- powering the backbone of AI. 🌈 New roles and paths are emerging: Think AI-integrator type roles, data‑center technicians, and data annotators. These are jobs that barely existed five years ago, signaling labor demand that's shifting quickly. I think one of the kindest things you can do for a colleague is to schedule Slack DMs for when they're on-line vs. sending when they've gone home (West Coast messaging East Coast) or when they're just getting their day started (East Coast messaging West Coast). It's a great way to indirectly commit to observing shared boundaries, helps create levels of gradation in urgency of message (e.g., if I *do* message you outside of what I know are your working hours, it probably is important), and is FREE TO DO. The inverse usually makes me feel like a colleague is operating under an "I sent the message, now it's off my plate and up to you" model, which forces me to maintain a boundary on my own, figure out if the message is truly urgent, and costs me time to discern all of the above. Anyone else?

Lately I’ve been sitting with the word "experiential". We all use it. It shows up in job titles, agency bios, client briefs, RFPs. Somewhere along the way, it became the default label for anything that isn’t a traditional ad, post, or spot. But the more I hear it, the more I wonder if it still carries the weight we think it does. Not because the work has lost impact—but because the word has lost specificity. What are we really describing when we say something is experiential? It could be a stunt. A space. A story. A moment. Remember that old NyQuil tagline? “The nighttime sniffling, sneezing, coughing, aching, fever, so you can rest medicine.” It didn’t just tell you what the product was—it told you what it did. And in doing so, it made sure every single person saw themselves in it. We could learn something from that. Because while we keep calling this work experiential, we’ve stopped telling people what that actually means. We use it like a shortcut, hoping it’s enough to convey the strategy, the emotion, the design, the intention. Spoiler: it’s not. “Experiential” is vague. And vague doesn’t get buy-in. Vague doesn’t get budget. Vague doesn’t spark imagination. So what if we described what we do like NyQuil did? What if we stopped relying on a single vague label and started describing the actual feel of the work? The heart-racing, curiosity-sparking, story-living, content-capturing, community-building, culture-connecting, wow-I’ll-never-forget-this brand moment that lives on long after the event ends… kind of work. That’s the kind of experience we’re actually trying to create. The kind we obsess over. The kind that earns its place in someone’s memory. So I’ve been thinking: maybe it’s time to stretch beyond the word. Not throw it out. Just ask more of it. Because if we want people to value this work—if we want them to understand what it really is—we need to describe it in a way that resonates. Specific. Human. Clear. Not just for clients or audiences, but for ourselves. Words matter. They hold power. They shape perception. They influence investment. They anchor intention. And they teach others how to talk about what we do when we’re not in the room. I think we’re ready for a new one.

We don’t always notice it, but trust is the quiet currency of service. As part of this series on making organizational values more than an afterthought, I’m starting with one of the most foundational: Trust. At AAA Oregon/Idaho, we define Trustworthy as acting with honesty and integrity. In practice, that means consistently choosing kindness and transparency. Even when it takes more effort. Members reach out to us in big, sometimes stressful moments: stranded on the road, planning a major trip, or navigating an insurance claim. What they need isn’t a perfect script or an overpromised timeline. What matters most is knowing they’ll be treated with honesty, clear communication, and respect. That’s where trust shines. It goes beyond roadside, travel, or insurance. It shows up in the simplest interactions and thoughtful follow-ups. When people know you’ll be transparent and kind, they’re more likely to feel comfortable, valued, and supported, even through the hard parts. Remember when CEOs stayed behind the scenes? Not anymore. More than 80% of ASX 100 CEOs are now on LinkedIn, using the platform to lead conversations and connect directly with their audiences. For comms professionals, this shift highlights a growing expectation for transparency, authenticity and real-time engagement from the top. When CEOs speak directly to their audiences, it builds trust, adds context and humanises the brand. In the past two years, CEO posts on LinkedIn have increased by 52%. On average, they receive eight times more impressions and four times more engagement than a typical post.
