Toyota Motor Europe scores sales record in 2025 Toyota Motor Europe (TME) sold a record 1,229,038 Toyota and Lexus vehicles in 2025 (+1%). TME’s mix of electrified vehicles grew to 77%, an increase of 5%, with sales of battery electric vehicles up 46%, plug-in hybrids up 76%, and hybrids up 3%. Cliché: Awareness is the first step. Research done by the Belgian University of Hasselt on the basis of more than 6000 scientific articles published between 1963 and 2024 shows that articles by female researchers take up to 10 weeks longer to be accepted by journals than publications by male researchers. Why? No conclusive answer was found (but several potential causes were ruled out, like quality etc). “In an academic world where publications are decisive for appointments, promotions, and funding, this gender gap with longer turnaround times is not without consequences. 💧 A powerful day for hydrogen This week, I had the privilege of joining over 150 guests at an event dedicated to local hydrogen production and real‑world applications. The energy in the place was remarkable — a mix of curiosity, ambition, and genuine excitement for what hydrogen can deliver. Together with Kioz, we explored their smart and pragmatic model: using excess solar energy to produce green hydrogen directly on site, enabling clean refuelling for vehicles and equipment. It’s a simple idea with a huge impact, and seeing it in action gave me a strong sense of what local energy ecosystems can become. One of the highlights was Toyota’s contribution to this future: 🚙 the Hilux FCEV prototype, showcasing hydrogen’s potential for demanding professional users, and 🚗 the Toyota Mirai, the result of more than 30 years of Toyota fuel‑cell development. It was great to welcome colleagues from Toyota Belgium, Toyota Motor Europe, and even Toyota Motor Corporation among the participants — together with key players from across the hydrogen ecosystem. The diversity of people and expertise made the discussions incredibly valuable. What I felt throughout the day is simple: Hydrogen is not a distant vision. With the right partners, the right technology, and the right local approach, it’s here, it’s scalable, and it’s happening now. This event was a strong reminder of the collective energy pushing this transition forward. #hydrogenisnow

This Wednesday, the European Parliament in Strasbourg will once again be the stage for Europe to take stock of where it stands, and, more importantly, where it wants to go. Competitiveness, resilience, industrial investment and Europe’s place in a changing global economy will inevitably be at the heart of the debate. For the automotive industry, the choices ahead are particularly consequential. Europe must be ambitious in strengthening its industrial base. But ambition should not come at the expense of the trusted partners, investments and value chains that have long contributed to Europe’s industrial strength. A stronger Europe does not have to mean a more closed Europe. As European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen sets out her vision for the year ahead, I will watch closely how Europe balances these two imperatives: building more in Europe while remaining open to those prepared to build with Europe.
