Very interesting discussion on AI. It will be interesting to see what catalyzes a bottom in publicly traded software companies. As with sector sell offs, there is little discernment for winners/losers, and many companies have defensible moats around their businesses - eg. proprietary data, verticals sold into etc. Always happy to chat.

A founder reached out this week to discuss a 2021 note maturing this quarter. His bank is willing to renew, but the terms are rigid. The covenants are tight, and the reporting requirements are designed for a stable environment, not the aggressive expansion he has planned for 2026. He asked a specific question: "Should I take my banks lower rate or should I explore higher rate options with a private credit lender with potentially more optionality?" My answer: What's more valuable to you at the beginning of 2026, lower rate or more operational flexibility? A lower rate is only "cheaper" if it doesn't cost you your agility. In the current environment, many founders are choosing private credit; not because they can't get bank debt, but because they value the much higher optionality it provides. Lower covenants, more flexible drawdowns, and a lender that acts like a partner rather than a regulator. Our discussion wasn't about the cost of capital. It was about the cost of a restricted balance sheet. When your capital structure is aligned with your operational goals, the higher rate often becomes the most efficient decision you can make. A point that continues to come through clearly is how much efficiency now matters on both sides of the table. Platform teams are stretched and asset managers are competing for limited attention. That dynamic is raising the bar. Outreach needs to more thoughtful, messaging needs to be more relevant, and interactions need to be more purposeful. In that environment, being helpful, not just visible, becomes a real differentiator.
