About
Kevin O'Leary's success story starts where most entrepreneurs begin: with a big idea and zero cash. From his basement, he launched SoftKey Software Products. As sales took off, Kevin moved to headquarters in Cambridge, Massachusetts and went on an industry consolidating acquisition binge.
From 1995 to 1999 he bought out almost every one of his software competitors, including Mindscape, Broderbund and the Learning Company in the industry's first vicious public hostile battle. Shareholders loved his take-no-prisoners, cost cutting style and fueled him with billions to do his deals.
In 1999 Kevin sold his company to the Mattel Toy Company for $4.2 billion, one of the largest deals ever done in the consumer software industry. To keep his money working hard, he took control of his wealth from his lackluster money managers and founded his own mutual fund company, O'Leary Funds. He raised hundreds of millions of dollars from investors who share his "get paid while you wait" yield oriented, value investing philosophy. He shares his tips and tribulations with a national television audience and turns The Street upside down in the process.
As a self-proclaimed "Eco-preneur," Kevin looks hardest for investments that make money - and are environmentally friendly. When he's not squeezing the market from his office, he travels the world looking for new opportunities to deploy his capital. He is on the investment committee of Boston's prestigious 200-year-old Hamilton Trust.
He launched O’Shares ETFs, a group of exchange traded funds. He is O'Shares Chairman.

It's been doing it for almost 200 years. The key is not to touch it, to just let it grow. Let it compound. You get capital gains, you get dividends, and they just grow and grow and grow and grow, and the next thing you know, old Jed's a millionaire. That's what investing's all about.

Kevin O'Leary shared thisThe narrative about data centers that were built in Virginia 20 years ago, they were old technology. They used a lot of water, they were very noisy, they created a lot of heat. But like every other technology, it's advanced dramatically. Today, we don't use a lot of water in data centers because it's a closed loop system like your car, your radiator. It stays inside a system. Many turbines now don't use water at all, they’re air-cooled. This narrative about data centers destroying the environment is an old story, and it's being used by those that don't wanna see this advance. We just need more capacity. We have to build it more responsibly, and that's exactly what's going on now. So this narrative is mostly a falsehood. And I think I know who's spreading this falsehood by the way. They're not our friends.

Kevin O'Leary shared thisThere’s been an enormous amount of misinformation surrounding our Utah data center project. Claims that we’re going to consume all of Utah’s electricity, drain the Great Salt Lake, or immediately build the world’s largest facility simply aren’t true. The reality is we’re building the project in phases, starting with a standard sized 1.5 gigawatt facility powered entirely by our own generation infrastructure not Utah’s grid. In fact, the goal is to eventually contribute power back into the local system to help stabilize energy costs. This project would create thousands of construction jobs, thousands more long term engineering and support jobs, and major tax revenue for Box Elder County over the next decade. We’re also going through every required process EPA approvals, water permits, air permits, noise compliance, and public review. What concerns me most is how aggressively misinformation has been amplified around power development projects across America. After conducting audits and reviewing IRS filings, we found organizations like Alliance for a Better Utah receiving funding through networks connected to Arabella and foreign linked money tied to Chinese interests. I’ve turned everything over to federal authorities because people deserve facts not fear campaigns when deciding the future of their communities.

Kevin O'Leary liked thisBeen trying Opus 4.8 since launch. Agentic stuff is still a bit sloppy. It'll skip steps I asked for, guess instead of checking, somehow land on the right answer anyway. On the positive side, it reads the situation better. Feels a bit too honest at times though. Overall, not a huge jump from 4.7 in my opinion. If you were expecting a wow moment, it's not really that.
