South Florida's climatetech startups in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale metro area have made significant strides, raising $391.3 million across 11 VC deals in the first half of 2025. This achievement already surpasses the total funding of $320.4 million from 27 deals in all of 2024, as highlighted in Emerge Americas' report. In response to this growing momentum, Mana Tech is launching the Climate Tech Scale-Up Program 2025. This unique 5-week hybrid program is designed for growth-stage companies focused on addressing the world's most pressing climate challenges. Welcome Felipe Polido, Co-Founder & Head of Technology at Reframe Systems on this episode of 🔥The Lantern 🔥 Reframe Systems is building affordable, resilient homes across the country powered by robotics, software, and a vertically integrated approach that's redefining how we think about construction. Founded by three Amazon Robotics alumni, Reframe is proving that the future of homebuilding starts on the factory floor…right here in Boston. 🏗️ What is Reframe Systems building in 2026? 🏗️ The team is 3 years in and accelerating. Reframe currently operates a facility in Andover, MA and is actively building a 12-home community in Devens, Mass. They have roughly $15M in signed contracts across both LA and Boston, making real progress toward their mission of making homes more affordable and resilient. They're also closing a new investment round in the months ahead, fueling growth across the company. 🧠 What makes Reframe's approach unique? 🧠 This isn't just modular housing. Reframe has built a deeply integrated operation, architecture, software, robotics, and field deployment all under one roof. Carpenters, plumbers, electricians, and engineers working side by side. Every operator on the factory floor works from iPads with generated instructions. CNC machines and robotic systems pull from the same upstream software. The team has built custom software that takes an architectural design and transforms it into manufacturing instructions with very low design cost, driving real efficiency across the entire pipeline. 🤔 What has Felipe learned from building physical AI companies? 🤔 Felipe's career spans Amazon Robotics to now building a physical AI company from scratch. His biggest lesson is to build manually first understand the requirements, and then ask if it should be automated. Too often in robotics, engineers want to build the technology first and figure out where it fits later. Felipe urges builders to flip it, stat with the customer need, then build technology to serve it.  Sometimes that means a robot, sometimes it's all software, sometimes it's workflows. The goal is always the same: better cost, timeline, and quality for customers. 🤝 How can we help Reframe Systems grow? 🤝 Reframe is hiring across the board. AI isn’t here to be shiny — it’s here to solve real problems. At today’s Miami AI Summit panel with founders from NeuralSeek, Guardrail Technologies, and 4A Labs, the conversation cut right to the reality of building in AI right now: it’s not just about the model, it’s about the mission. AI startups are navigating crises in real time — data leaks, privacy risks, reliability challenges, and rapidly shifting infrastructure needs. Managing all of this requires layered control, strong governance, and a deep respect for data protection. Open or closed, no system is inherently “safe” — security comes from transparency, oversight, and responsible engineering. But the biggest theme? If you can’t measure the needle, you can’t move it. AI only matters when it makes something easier, faster, more reliable, or more efficient. That means spending less time building cool tech for the sake of it, and more time understanding what buyers actually need. What’s the business problem? What does solving it look like? How do you quantify success? As founders and operators, our job isn’t to dazzle — it’s to deliver. Educate the organizations using your AI. Build tools that work. Protect the data you’re entrusted with. And never lose sight of the fact that AI is a business enabler, not a science project.
