“Karan worked with me at the Center for Vehicle Systems and Safety (CVeSS) of Virginia Tech. As a research faculty, I have guided Karan in high-profile research projects such as the study of wheel-rail contact mechanics and dynamics of railway vehicles. As an example of his technical knowledge, I would like to mention his research on developing a novel force control scheme for linear motors of the VT Roller Rig testing facility. I found Karan to be very knowledgeable in vehicle dynamics and controller design. His research is extensive and provoking. He is a very hard-working student and has a knack for finding ways for improvement. Karan is a creative person and often astonishes me with his problem-solving skills. He is one of the most energetic, enthusiastic and optimistic engineers that I have ever come across. His strong interpersonal skills along with his strong technical abilities enable him to excel in his field. It was a pleasure mentoring Karan, and I endorse him without hesitation.”

A comparative study on the tribological performance of lubricating oils with ZrO2, CuO and ZnO nanoparticles as additives
National Conference on Recent Advances in Smart Materials (NCRASM)
• Investigated the influence of CuO, ZnO and ZrO2 nano-particles, as additives in base oil, PAO 6, on the coefficient of friction and wear of bearing steel using a Reciprocating Sliding Tribo-Tester machine
• Studied the influence of load and temperature on the effectiveness of nano lubricationOther authors -
Studies on microstructure and mechanical properties of keyhole mode Nd:YAG laser welded Inconel 625 and Duplex stainless steel, SAF 2205
Journal of Materials Research
• Performed TIG welding on flux coated Super Duplex Stainless Steel and optimized the current and voltage to obtain complete penetration welds
• The microstructure and macrostructure of the weldments were studied and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), line mapping and elemental mapping analysis were carried out at the weld interface to determine the cause of the failure when subjected to mechanical testing techniques
• Outcome of the study useful for marine and geothermal applicationsOther authorsSee publication
