Tech investments are transforming the Texas economy, often via companies from California in search of lower taxes and fewer regulations on land use and labor. “In the end, it’s all about the cost of doing business, and the cost of doing business is just lower in Texas,” said John Diamond, an economist at Rice University in Houston. Inc., a subsidiary of Chevron Corporation (“Chevron”) (NYSE: CVX), announced that it has closed on a transaction to sell a 70% interest in its East Texas gas assets to an affiliate of TG Natural Resources LLC (“TGNR”), a company indirectly owned by Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. (“Tokyo Gas”) and Castleton Commodities International LLC (“CCI”), for $525 million, with $75 million paid in cash and $450 million as a capital carry to fund Haynesville development. Chevron will retain a 30% non-operated working interest in a joint venture with TGNR and an overriding royalty interest in the assets. Tokyo Gas and CCI own an approximate 93% and 7% interest in TGNR, respectively."

Venture Global LNG shares surge as company announces Plaquemines ramp-up. Venture Global has commenced liquefied natural gas production from Phase 2 of its Plaquemines export facility in Louisiana. This development, confirmed by sources knowledgeable about its operations, along with LSEG ship tracking data and federal filings, marks a significant milestone. Over the past six months, the company, as the United States' second-largest LNG producer, has successfully exported LNG from Phase 1 of its Louisiana facility. With the initiation of production from Phase 2, Venture Global is poised to capitalize on higher spot market prices for LNG over the next two years. New data from the Texas Workforce Commission indicate that upstream oil and natural gas employment climbed by 1,700 in April compared to March. This follows strong hiring growth that took place in January and February of this year, during which upstream jobs grew by 2,600 and 1,600, respectively, with March having been down by 800. At 206,000 upstream jobs, compared to the same month in the prior year, April 2025 jobs were up by 2,100, or 1%. TXOGA President Todd Staples issued the following statement: “The oil and natural gas industry continues to demonstrate resiliency while facing uncertainty with underlying demand concerns. These positive job numbers are a tremendous benefit to the families who are supported by this industry and are important for the communities in which they occur. I’m proud to share that my latest piece, “Louisiana’s Big Tax Change Opens New Opportunities for Oil Companies,” was just published by Energies Media. After years of effort and advocacy, Louisiana has passed HB600, reducing the oil #SeveranceTax rate for new wells from 12.5 percent to 6.5 percent. This change satisfies a promise by Governor Landry, brings the state in line with national standards, and makes it much more attractive for investment. As someone who works directly with companies navigating the complexities of severance taxes, I’ve seen how Louisiana’s previous rate discouraged development. This shift has the potential to unlock new drilling activity, create jobs, and boost energy production across the state. NextDecade just officially announced FID on the fourth train at its Rio Grande LNG project in South Texas. That is the fourth U.S. LNG export project to be sanctioned this year in addition to Louisiana LNG, CP2 and Cheniere's Midscale 8 & 9 project.
