3 years speaking at FigMarch. What started as a session about visual design, became a journey into systems, scalability and cross-functional thinking. 2024 → Expanding visual design   2025 → Thinking in systems   2026 → Bridging design and development  This year was different. Not just presenting… but answering complex real cases and participating in conversations from a developer perspective. That shift says a lot about how design is evolving. Figma is no longer just a design tool. It’s becoming a shared language across teams. And I’m still evolving with it.

Sunday Reflection: Goodbye car ownership? 🚗🚌 2.5 years ago, I gave up my company car to test what everyone calls the "sustainable future of mobility." Moving to the Netherlands, known for excellent public transport and shared mobility, I committed to 2 years without car ownership to experience the shift away from traditional ownership firsthand. 📊 The Reality Check: -> Lynk & Co subscription year: Started at €550/month, rose to €600, €649 now €679 (15,000km limit). For the (above) average person already juggling housing, insurance, and other subscriptions, this was simply unsustainable. I couldn't save money anymore. -> Greenwheels + Public Transport year: Lower initial costs, but the convenience factor and planning required made daily life more complex than anticipated. Especially mentally it limited spontaneous freedom. 🎯 Where I landed: I'm back to a second-hand car that provides both the financial benefit subscription models (with new cars) can't offer AND the freedom that sharing services couldn't provide. 🌱 After genuinely testing what's promoted as our mobility future, I've learned that subscription models often oversell their benefits. The Accenture report I read years ago positioned leasing, subscriptions, and vehicle-on-demand as key enablers for circular automotive economy - and while the sustainability goals are admirable, the current financial reality doesn't match the marketing promises. 💡 What I'd love to see: Subscription models for 5-10 year old cars entering the market as a much more accessible alternative. 🤔 Questions for the community: -> Are you regularly using shared mobility services? In 2011, Koen Bok and Jorn van Dijk sold their small design studio to Facebook. Fourteen years later, the company they went on to build, Framer, has crossed $2 billion in valuation after raising a $100M Series D. What began as a tool “for designers who wanted more control” now powers websites for companies like Miro, Perplexity, and Scale AI. More than half a million people use Framer each month to spin up landing pages and to run full enterprise-grade websites with security and analytics built in. The numbers show the scale: ✳️ $50M ARR this year, with a path to $100M next year ✳️ A customer base that now tilts enterprise, including 40% of the latest Y Combinator batch ✳️ Break-even operations, unusual for a growth-stage SaaS company Framer’s rise comes in the middle of a crowded market with Figma, Wix, Squarespace, and emerging AI-native builders like Cursor and Lovable. Its distinction lies in refusing to be just another template engine. Framer has been built as the website builder designers actually want to use—flexible enough to scale with teams, with AI now woven into the workflow. Koen Bok put it directly: “Any company should be able to confidently run their entire website on Framer.” This is more than a funding milestone. It is a case study in how design-first products can mature into enterprise platforms without losing the qualities that made them beloved. The next phase will be the hardest: moving from “loved by designers” to “trusted by enterprises” on a global scale. Episode 3 — The Full Version: From Proof to Power By October 2023, the full version of VerkoopMijnTelefoon.nl was ready. What started as a small MVP had now become a complete, stable, and powerful platform — faster, smarter, and built for scale. This wasn’t an experiment anymore. It was a business engine. After learning from the MVP’s data and customer feedback, he knew exactly what worked and what didn’t. So every decision this time was deliberate — from smoother user journeys to faster checkout and stronger infrastructure. The new platform was designed to handle thousands of devices across the Netherlands. It wasn’t just rebuilt — it was re-engineered for growth. This time, marketing and SEO joined the picture. We built a strong organic foundation — optimized pages, lightning-fast load speeds, and targeted campaigns that reached people who actually wanted to sell. The platform started ranking higher. Traffic became consistent. Leads didn’t need chasing anymore — they arrived daily. And the results? The return on investment was three times higher than the MVP phase. What began as a test idea had turned into a profitable, self-sustaining business. By mid-2025, the total investment in phone purchases alone had reached €1.5 million — not including marketing or operational costs. The workflow was automated. Orders were smooth. The name VerkoopMijnTelefoon.nl had become a trusted brand all across the Netherlands, backed by more than 1,000 Trustpilot reviews. That success didn’t just change his business — it changed his life. He bought a new car. He moved into a new home. The long nights in the repair shop had finally paid off. But there was still one piece left. He now had a growing stock of refurbished phones ready to sell. Until now, he had been supplying them to other wholesalers in the market — but the margins were small. End of October we hosted our first Product Leadership Roundtable at the Netlight Amsterdam office! We had engaging and intimate sessions with great energy and thoughtful discussions on the topic of Reimagining Product Organisations for AI-Powered UX. Let's share some key takeaways: - Faster path to MVP, kept human: AI can speed up exploration and reduce friction on the way to a meaningful MVP. The reminder was consistent: keep it human, ground decisions in user insights and do not use AI outputs alone. - Evolving roles and overlapping skills: as AI expands what different roles can do, we’re seeing more overlap across product, UX and engineering. Design engineers are a strong example: blending design intuition with implementation creates new collaboration patterns and shifts in ownership. Clear expectations and shared principles become even more important. - Product managers and AI for vision: PMs can use AI to quickly visualise concepts and product narratives, making vision tangible earlier. This helps teams and stakeholders align faster around “what good looks like”. - More time for interaction and alignment: with AI accelerating certain tasks, teams can invest more in the human work, facilitated conversations, decision-making and building shared understanding across disciplines and stakeholders. Hacking a solution in 2 days. The goal: Create an audio web guide that can guide you to the right page and help you navigate the page The result: A working (albeit not during the live demo of course) chrome plugin that can - Read your screen by assessing the html - Guide you to the right page for your question (even if the link is not on the page you are viewing) - Navigate you around the page by e.g. pressing buttons - Even help you fill in forms The verdict: Although the Realtime API is much more natural, it is almost too fast (and much less robust) for web navigating, so simple speech-to-text and text-to-speech works much better. I recently read a book that included a quote by Jeroen de Flander: "You cannot be everything to everyone. If you decide to go north, you cannot go south at the same time." This is something that happens more often than not when I talk with founders. They have a great product that's working with a specific audience, and instead of going all in with something that works, they start adding a bunch of features to attract new audiences. This approach might work sometimes, but in most cases it's complete chaos. Your current loyal customers start to get confused about your product. You were a database, now you've turned into a full CRM, with a new SaaS platform, and a GPS tracker for pets. The key to growth isn't adding fancy things. It's focusing on what got you where you are, and scaling it. If a bakery is famous for its cheesecakes, adding new cakes won't make them grow. You're already doing great with a single thing, why add new products? There's a lot more you could do: ◾ Clarify your messaging so the right customers find you faster ◾ Build a website that actually converts your traffic into leads ◾ Create case studies that show the real impact you're making ◾ Position yourself as the obvious choice in your specific niche ◾ Optimise your sales process to close bigger deals Going deeper into what you already do well beats spreading thin across things you don't. #branding #designagency #webflow

Vibe coding for the masses? 🧑‍💻🦾 What happens when everyone can code? Should everyone code? Even journalists? 😉 Yesterday I had the chance to spar with Jorn Lelong from De Morgen, who went on his own vibe coding journey. He experimented with tools like Claude [Code] and Lovable to build 4 gradually more complex apps in a week. I've seen ⭐️ Strategists turning boring classic presentations into interactive deliverables. 📱 product managers create interactive prototypes in code ⏮️ Backend engineers becoming full stack engineers 👨‍🎨 Designers becoming full stack product developers 👶 Even 12-year-olds building their first web apps. My hot take: It's a good thing. For years we described coding as a form of modern literacy. Yet being able to write or read code often required something close to a master’s degree. Just like writing, some people will master the craft, while others will simply use it as a tool to express an idea. That’s exactly what literacy should look like. But don't confuse it with mastery of the coding craft. 2️⃣ The art of the vibe 💃🕺 Continuing the previous thought: “Vibe coding” sounds effortless, but building something that actually works is still a craft. Working with LLMs is less like issuing commands and more like dancing with the AI: 🔭 exploring possible directions 🔁 iterating quickly 🪏 pruning when the model goes off track 🗿gradually shaping something usable This is resulting in a new craft. From #VibeCoding ⏭️ #VibeEngineering ⏭️ #HarnessEngineering. The craft of creating the environment for an AI to become a knowledge work machine rather than a powerful liability. Tools like Cursor, Claude Code and Lovable are getting better every month, but the human craft and surrounding constraints make them useful. 3️⃣ Software for one Why is it useful? I don't believe individuals with vibe coding will take over the tech scene. I do believe that their creations will become the norm. What vibe coding unlocks is software for an audience of one. So called #Soloware and software for a single or very scoped use #EphemeralSoftware Not every piece of software needs to scale to millions while it can unlock some unique or valuable experiences. Caveat: I'm glancing over the dangers of small or uninformed software projects. However, these are not unique to vibe-coding and also not to small or solo-teams. AI-assisted programming can be a completely new category of software but it is still software inheriting both the power and risks associated with it. Lately, I find myself talking about AI all the time. With colleagues, architects, developers. And that's probably true for most of us right now. Conversations about productivity, quality, responsibility or simply: "how are you using AI?" At some point I noticed I kept explaining the same things. So I wrote them down. Not to hype AI, but to share where I currently stand. What started as a few notes turned into a full reflection on how AI shows up in my daily work as an architect and engineer.
