About
Jeff is one of the very rare American executives who has risen to the top at major companies in five completely unrelated industries, serving on executive teams at McKinney (advertising), Gap (fashion apparel), Target (big box retail), Uber (technology) and H&R Block (financial services). His career has taken him from private to public companies, start up to Fortune 50, and various not-for-profit and public boards.
Earlier in his career, as a Chief Marketing Officer, Jeff was inducted into the CMO Hall of Fame. Then, later as a Chief Executive Officer, Jeff was the subject of a 2024 Harvard Business School case study (Driving Transformation: Jeff Jones at H&R Block, no. 424079).
Since October, 2017 Jeff as served as the President and CEO of H&R Block ($HRB). During his tenure, the stock price and market cap have grown significantly. The Company was recently recognized as a 2024 Fortune Best Place to Work in Financial Services, a 2024 Fast Company Brand that Matters Honoree, and #1 on the 2024 Indeed Best Place to Work list. Jeff is a member of the H&R Block Board of Directors and serves as a member of the Finance Committee.
In addition, Jeff serves as a Director of Advance Auto Parts ($AAP) where he Chairs the Compensation Committee, and is a member of the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee. In 2023, he served as Chair of the CEO Succession Committee.
Over his career Jeff has served as a member, advisor or board member to various organizations including
Children’s Mercy Hospital, Kansas City Economic Club, GSK Consumer Healthcare, The Mayo Clinic, Coach K Center on Leadership and Ethics at Fuqua Business School, Young Presidents Organization (YPO) Windy City Chapter, Chicago Children’s Advocacy Center and The Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University.
Jeff has been named “One to Watch” by the Wall Street Journal, “Marketer of the Year” by Mass Market Retailer, “PowerPlayer” by AdAge, and “One of the World’s Most Influential CMO’s” by Forbes. His work has been featured by Harvard Business Review, Wisdom from the Top with Guy Raz, Masters of Scale by Reid Hoffman, Wake-Up Call with Katie Couric, Corporate Competitor with Don Yaeger and in the books, Rebuilding Empires, Decision Sprint, and Super Pumped: The Battle for Uber.
