Yesterday's announcement of two new Surface Copilot+ PCs marks a bold step forward in how AI and hardware come together to empower people in their everyday work and lives. Built on the Copilot+ PC platform, these devices are thoughtfully designed to be fast, intuitive, portable, but also personal. With the new AI agent in the settings app, users can now ask for help with everyday system tasks just by describing what they need. One example I love? You can say, “My mouse pointer is too small” or “How do I control my PC by voice?”, and the agent will guide you to the right setting, or even take care of it for you, with your permission. We just shipped an update to Agentic Retrieval in Azure AI Search that boosts results quality when grounding agents on external data for elaborate scenarios where a single search against a single data source would not be enough. We're expanding Agentic Retrieval with the ability to target multiple indexes in a single operation. This is not just a fan-out query, the query planner uses the information it has about each source of data to intelligently decompose retrieval tasks into separate subtasks, issues the right queries to the right indexes, and then composes a unified result ready to be sent to the language model backing an agent. The system is built and evaluated from the ground up with consideration of steerability. Developers can provide descriptions and instructions for each data source, as well as overall instructions for the retrieval agent that oversees the operation. We also added the option for answer synthesis in the same retrieval call. When answer synthesis is enabled, we not only return the raw grounding information but also an actual answer to the question or task based on the various results from the knowledge sources the system selected. With this capability, a single call to the /retrieve API replaces what would have been extensive context engineering work to get routing and query planning right, several calls to a language model for query decomposition, several calls to separate search indexes to actually retrieve data, and subsequent work to stitch results together. Microsoft Build 2025 –an incredible four days, 300+ sessions and 60 new product and services announcements with AI at the center! This year, we laid out a bold vision for the next generation of AI moving from reactive assistants to proactive, collaborative agents that drive outcomes across systems, tools, and data. There were so many inspiring moments and announcements, with a few highlights:   The Open Agentic Web: Satya Nadella introduced the concept of an open agentic web. AI agents like calendar managers, content creators, and supply chain optimizers working together to manage complexity and deliver business value at scale. GitHub Copilot Evolves: Copilot has matured into an autonomous agent, now capable of debugging, implementing features, and answering code-related queries—cutting down time-to-value for developers. Sam Altman on Codex Agents: Joined by Sam Altman, Satya spotlighted the launch of Codex agents what Sam called “one of the biggest changes to programming.” His message was clear: “We haven’t seen many technological shifts like this in history but leaning in early and hard has always been rewarded.” Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Azure AI Advances With fine-tuned Copilot capabilities and over 1,900 models now in Azure AI (including Grok 3), partners and customers have more tools than ever to build, scale, and differentiate.   The biggest key takeaway - AI agents are here and are unleashing opportunities for both small and medium enterprises (SMEs), as well as partners.  For SMEs, it’s about driving productivity and scaling growth with fewer resources. For partners, it’s about delivering tailored, AI-powered solutions faster and creating new value for customers in the process.   Agentic AI is more than a concept, it is the engine of the next generation of business.
