Janette Ciborowski shared thisI'm thrilled to be back from maternity leave, working with the incredible Healthcare team NVIDIA. AI & accelerated computing are reshaping healthcare in truly amazing ways that seemed impossible even when I started a few years ago. We're talking about detecting cancer earlier and processing images so patients get answers sooner, and all this is happening in hospitals and research labs right now. I'm looking to connect and share stories- if you're working at the intersection of AI and healthcare - let's talk.

Janette Ciborowski reposted thisJanette Ciborowski reposted thisHave we reached the agentic AI inflection? In response, many point to OpenClaw, which went from a solo developer’s side project to one of the fastest-growing open-source frameworks in history. More researchers are customizing agents for domain-specific use. While at NVIDIA GTC, I compiled a list of autonomous systems augmenting the life science lab, including: ▪️ 𝐊𝐨𝐬𝐦𝐨𝐬 (Edison Scientific): AI scientist that performs hundreds of research tasks in parallel to compress months of work into a single day ▪️ 𝐋𝐚𝐛𝐎𝐒 (Le Cong and Mengdi Wang): Extended reality (XR) operating system that unites computational reasoning with physical experiments ▪️ 𝐋𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭-𝐘 (Latent Labs): Agent that designs therapeutic antibodies from a text prompt ▪️ 𝐃𝐲𝐧𝐨 𝐏𝐬𝐢-𝐏𝐡𝐢 (Dyno Therapeutics): Agent that combines protein binder design with data-informed filters to identify candidates most likely to succeed By no means is this list exhaustive. Additional players to watch include, Lila Sciences, Potato, Phylo, and more (comment anyone I'm missing!) Andrew Beam, Marinka Zitnik, Rory Kelleher, Andrew White, Samuel G. Janette Ciborowski liked thisJanette Ciborowski liked thisMy son Kaleb Guynn graduated from St. Mary's College High School this week and I have to brag on him for just a minute. He made the honor roll. He was one of a small number of students to receive an academic award of distinction. His teachers singled him out for two more awards. As one of them told me, Kaleb is one of one. What perhaps meant the most to Kaleb was that his peers elected him LaSallian student of the year for embodying these values: Faith in the presence of God, respect for all persons, inclusive community, quality education and concern for the poor and social justice. What made me most proud? One of the nominations read: "He should win this award because he consistently brings a positive energy that genuinely impacts everyone around him. He's the kind of person who makes people feel seen and valued, whether it's through a simple conversation, a joke at the right moment, or just his overall attitude. No matter what kind of day someone is having, he has a way of lifting the mood and making things a little better. "What really sets him apart is that his kindness feels natural and effortless. It's just who he is. He treats people with respect, supports his peers and creates an environment where others feel comfortable and included. That kind of presence doesn't just improve someone's day in the moment, it helps build a stronger, more positive community overall. "His impact might not always be loud or attention-seeking but it's meaningful and lasting. He leads by example, showing how far a good attitude and genuine kindness can go." You could hear that love and appreciation flow through Zellerbach Hall as Kaleb crossed the stage. Then he and his three future Morehouse brothers were called back to lead their entire graduating class in the official turning of the tassel. So what did these young men of consequence do next? They led the audience in a jubilant call and response: Whose house? Morehouse! #ProudMorehouseMom #joyfulmama #grateful #blessed

Janette Ciborowski liked thisJanette Ciborowski liked thisI had the privilege of returning to the University of Arizona to give the commencement address at the College of Science. In biotech you spend a lot of time being told what you're trying to do is impossible. Growing up dyslexic, impossible is a world that is all too familiar to me. Sometimes the experts are right. A lot of the time they're describing the boundary of what's been done, not the boundary of what's possible. What I shared with the Class of 2026 is the thing I wish someone had told me at 22: the way you're different is not what's holding you back. It's the thing nobody else has. Thank you Dean Carmie and U of A for having me back. Bear down!

Janette Ciborowski liked thisJanette Ciborowski liked thisThere’s a particular type of young guy who talks loudly in public spaces with seemingly zero awareness that he’s at a decibel level that’s a multiple of everyone else in the room, disrupting a collective peace and breaking an unspoken rule. Generally the topics interrupting the rest of our conversations, reading or thoughts span gym habits, work (but with an earning lens), and strongly held opinions about the value of particular places or things. Seems this person (writ large) takes up more space with every passing day…

Janette Ciborowski liked thisJanette Ciborowski liked thisThere's a version of leadership that looks like having it all figured out. I stopped performing that version a while ago. The best leaders I know are still iterating. Still pivoting. Still adding chapters to a story that isn't finished. That's not a gap in their credibility — that's what standing for something actually looks like from the inside. What I want my sons to see isn't someone who had all the answers. It's someone who kept writing anyway. Who showed up to the page even when the chapter was hard and the ending wasn't clear yet. Your story being unfinished isn't a sign that something's wrong. It's just proof that you're still in it. Keep writing. #SavvySystems #AIInTheMargins #BuildingInPublic

At California Science and Technology University Christmas party, I have leaned some of my remarkable students update: • One student joined my webinar — and soon after designed a financial services platform and proposed AI solutions to an aviation company for a 100k-pilot program. • Another, an engineer over 55, who believed he might never be employable again, is now a founding member of an AI-driven HR startup. • Another student, with an accounting background and no legal training, identified a problem in her own life — and launched a pre-marriage legal service. Different industries. Different backgrounds. Same pattern. None of them started with tools. They started by seeing the opportunity clearly. That’s the part most AI education skips. If AI feels confusing, overwhelming, or “not for you” — it’s rarely about skill. It’s about learning how to notice. If you’re curious how to spot AI opportunities in your work — comment “SEE” and I’ll share the framework I teach.

Find out about a fellowship program at UC San Diego Health that teaches #clinicians and #nurses how to communicate compassionately with patients. Compassionate communication is essential to establish trust between clinicians and their patients. Trust is foundational in creating meaningful connections and working relationships with patients. Evonne Kaplan-Liss, MD, MPH, director of the Center for Compassionate Communication at the UC San Diego Sanford Institute for Empathy and Compassion, says there are several essential elements in compassionate communication. "In compassionate communication, the receiver feels heard, taken care of, and understood," Kaplan-Liss says. "The skills required for compassionate communication are deep listening, clarity, understanding the receiver's perspective, and authenticity." My latest story for Santa Clara University. Therapy can help people get through their most trying times, but for many, professional care has never been within reach. Stigma keeps some away, while the high cost of a single session shuts out others. For decades, those without access have leaned on friends and family instead of licensed mental health providers for support. Now, they have new options: generative AI tools, like ChatGPT. https://lnkd.in/gxbwxHXB

Today marks an incredible milestone as AMD, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure come together to power the next chapter of America’s scientific story with two new systems: Discovery and Lux. These aren’t just new supercomputers. They represent something far more powerful: hope accelerated. For decades, high-performance computing has helped us simulate the world. But when you pair that compute power with the intelligence of AI, something extraordinary happens. We move from simulating what we already know… to discovering what we didn’t know we could know. Imagine being able to test thousands of new materials in hours and finding the one that could make batteries charge in minutes or store solar energy ten times more efficiently. Or designing new alloys that withstand extreme temperatures, reshaping what’s possible in clean energy, aerospace, and advanced manufacturing. Or mapping the protein structures that could unlock cures for diseases faster than we can name them. Or modeling entire food ecosystems to predict and prevent crop failures helping us grow more with less and strengthen food security around the world. That’s what happens when HPC and AI converge; when precision meets intuition, and silicon becomes a spark for human progress. Discovery and Lux are built to do exactly that: to give scientists, engineers, and dreamers the ability to ask bigger questions and get answers faster than ever before. They’re not just machines. They’re instruments of understanding. I’ve always believed the most meaningful advances don’t come from technology alone. They come from what people can do because of it. This partnership — across government, academia, and industry — proves that when we build together, we move humanity forward together. Because in the end, the true measure of innovation isn’t in teraflops or benchmarks. It’s in how quickly we can turn ideas into impact and hope into action. Hope, accelerated. https://lnkd.in/ge6cD4nD

Thoughtful Julie J. Park contribution to the UC San Diego readiness/test-or-no-test discourse, including evidence countering the mismatch theory: It’s counterintuitive, but students with gaps in academic preparation can still succeed at an institution like UCSD. As explained by Princeton University economist Zachary Bleemer: “There’s no advantage to the student to being pushed into a less selective university. Instead, you’re just taking away the advantages that a school like UC San Diego offers them.” Studying the UCs, Bleemer found that students from historically under-resourced backgrounds, including those with lower test scores, experienced better outcomes when they attended more selective institutions. His work and that of others debunk the mismatch hypothesis. https://lnkd.in/e4VUYNYv
