It’s about the people, not the process As designers, we are enamored with the process. A quick Google search about the Design Process yields hundreds of results, from the Double Diamond (Design Council) to the 5 D’s (Stanford d.school). In the book "Product Leadership," Richard Banfield and Nate Walkingshaw, interviewed several high-performing teams from Starbucks to Formula 1. None of them led the conversation by showing the “amazing process.” All of them discussed the people they were doing it for and what outcomes were expected. This begs the question: why do we as designers almost always talk about the design process? We often argue that we want to show our partners in product and tech the “right process.” We ought to teach them the right way to do product design. We take a presumptuous position that alienates our cross-functional partners, inhibits influence, and trust. On the other hand, if we focus on our target customers, the OKRs, and the outcomes we are expected to achieve, we can get alignment. Many design product companies are focusing on aggregating AI tools and models. Adobe just recently announced Project Graph, Adobe’s new node-based workflow, which combines gen AI with traditional Adobe tools, and now Figma has acquired Weavy.ai. https://lnkd.in/g4VmvnmA
