A few weeks ago, the oncology community came together in Chicago at #ASCO25.   While groundbreaking data and science take the spotlight at American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), equally crucial are the conversations centered around patients. As we celebrate significant milestones in cancer progress, it’s clear that our mission remains unfinished unless we overcome ongoing challenges—namely, ensuring equitable access to cancer treatment for all.   AstraZeneca welcomed nearly 100 oncology patient advocates to explore the transformative power of patient navigation. Together, we examined barriers to navigation access and brainstormed actionable solutions for a more equitable future.   Here are a few of my takeaways:    ✅ Patient navigation changes lives, yet currently reaches too few. ✅ Trust, transparency, and cultural sensitivity are essential—navigation must be personal and relevant to each patient. ✅ Health equity starts with access. Insurance, diagnostic testing, and clinical trial opportunities must be available to everyone. ✅ Everyone has a role. Navigators, advocacy organizations, the pharmaceutical industry, and policymakers all have a part to play.    Thank you to the panelists Tracy Rode, from the Patient Empowerment Network, Joelle Thirsk Fathi, from GO2 for Lung Cancer, Ricki Fairley, from TOUCH, The Black Breast Cancer Alliance, and Lisa A. Lacasse, from the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network for sharing invaluable insights into their experiences with patient navigation.   I’m inspired by the potential of what we can do when we break down silos, come together across the healthcare sector and collectively find solutions for those that matter most for those living with and affected by cancer. I’m excited to see what we can accomplish together. The future is bright!

For example, the latest Spencer Stuart survey shows nom/gov committees still view board composition and succession as top priorities for 2025. °AI Readiness Is No Longer Optional: The episode delves into what boards should look for - from accountability models to alignment with strategy, to risk, ethical guardrails, and disclosure. The PwC Board Oversight of AI report makes this very clear: boards must build understanding, establish governance frameworks, and stay ahead of regulation. °Tech And Strategy Must Be Joined At The Hip: As businesses face tech disruption, those boards that succeed treat technology fluency and digital risk not as sidebar topics but central elements of evaluation and strategy. Deloitte has found that boards with “tech-savvy” members outperform peers and are better positioned for strategic innovation. 💡 My Key Takeaway Board evaluation isn’t a one-and-done exercise - it’s a leadership discipline. The value lies in how evaluation invites change, accountability, and future focus. When done well, it transforms boards into more adaptive, aligned, and future-ready institutions. Want to lead a multigenerational workforce? You’ve come to the right place! First thing first, start by understanding what each generation values. Then go deeper, uncover what truly inspires them. While what you say shapes your leadership, what you adapt defines it. “Six generations. One workforce. Unified not by age, but by purpose.” Harvey Y. If you want to connect across generations, stop leading with one-size-fits-all. Start focusing on what each generation brings, and what they need to thrive. Leadership today is built not on what you assume, but what you learn. And more importantly, by what you personalize. What you flex. What you honor. It’s about what you adapt without compromising standards, and what you, as a leader, choose to understand rather than resist. For the first time in modern history, six generations coexist in the workforce and did you know or realize that??? It is a leadership challenge few were ever trained for. I know. 🔹 Silent Generation (pre-1946): Still serving on boards; shaped by duty and discipline 🔹 Baby Boomers (1946–1964): ~12% of today’s workforce; value stability, loyalty, and legacy 🔹 Gen X (1965–1980): ~27%; independent, pragmatic, delivery-focused 🔹 Millennials (1981–1996): ~34%; purpose-driven, collaborative, growth-oriented 🔹 Gen Z (1997–2012): ~27%; inclusive, tech-native, values transparency 🔹 Gen Alpha (post-2012): The emerging workforce, digital-first, fast-learning, entrepreneurial (they will surprise you!) These differences show up in how we work: → Senior leaders value hierarchy; Gen Z prefers flat structures → Boomers seek recognition; Gen X values autonomy; Millennials seek meaning; Gen Z asks “why?” → Gen Alpha? They’re learning, building, and questioning earlier than ever. What feels like friction is often just generational dissonance. Next time before you get frustrated remember this!
