RisingWave
𝐈𝐬 𝐑𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐜𝐞𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐠? At the recent Iceberg Meetup in Tel Aviv, Amit Gilad shared his benchmark results: By running compaction in Rust instead of a distributed engine like Spark, he completed the process much faster while reducing costs by 90%! The results speak for themselves: 𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 Speed Comparison: Amazon Athena – 61s Rust Compactor – 186s Apache Spark – 1800s (30 mins!) 🔥 Rust is significantly faster than Spark and only slightly behind Athena. Cost per 1TB Compaction Sort: S3 Tables – $50 Tabular (Databricks) – $50 Rust Compactor – $5 🔥 Rust is 10x cheaper than the alternatives! 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 Rust-based compaction is blazing fast and cost-effective. At RisingWave, we started using Rust for our Iceberg integration two years ago and continue to invest in the Iceberg-Rust project. We’re excited to see more details from Amit Gilad about his benchmark, code, and setup! Want efficient Apache Iceberg? ScyllaDB
"Just write to ScyllaDB and it all just works. The amount of time we spend on infrastructure management has significantly decreased.” - Naveed Khan, Head of Engineering, Blitz. See how replacing Postgres with #ScyllaDB Cloud improved the user experience while simplifying life for their engineering teams. https://lnkd.in/e47Ddrtw

Firebolt
We just open-sourced FuzzBerg - a #fuzzing framework built for Apache Iceberg 🧊 While there are available fuzzers for individual file formats like Parquet or Avro, FuzzBerg is the first (to our knowledge) #opensource fuzzer which fuzzes all of Iceberg table format holistically properly handling account metadata and snapshots. We already used it to improve Firebolt's own #Iceberg support (and found some "fun" surprises along the way). Now we're sharing it with the community. 🧩 📖 More in the blog by Abhishek Sen: https://lnkd.in/dS59r-65

Rust Jobs 🦀
𝐌𝐢𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐨𝐟𝐭’𝐬 #𝐑𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐁𝐞𝐭: 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐁𝐥𝐮𝐞 𝐒𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐫 𝐂𝐨𝐝𝐞 At RustConf, Mark Russinovich shared how deeply Microsoft is leaning into Rust to replace unsafe C/C++ in critical systems. This isn’t just about developer preference - it’s about making the world’s most widely used software safer and more reliable. Over the past few years, Rust has gone from being a "promising new language" to a serious player in modern software engineering. What makes this shift so interesting for professionals is not just hype, but the technical depth driving adoption across industries. - 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗪𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗚𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Rust's ownership model eliminates entire classes of runtime errors (null pointers, data races) while keeping performance close to C/C++. This isn't just a productivity boost - it's an engineering paradigm shift. - 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘀: From cloud infrastructure to embedded devices, Rust consistently delivers low-level control with high-level ergonomics. Companies migrating critical workloads report reduced latency, lower resource usage, and stronger reliability. - 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺: Crates io now provides robust libraries for networking, async programming, cryptography, and machine learning. What was once a "systems-only" language is now powering full-stack solutions, from APIs to blockchain. - 𝗔𝗱𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝘆 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀: Amazon, Microsoft, and Cloudflare are investing in Rust at scale. The language is now part of Linux kernel development - a milestone that speaks volumes about long-term viability. - 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲: Tooling (Cargo, Clippy, Rust Analyzer) sets a standard that many seasoned developers wish they had in other languages. Strong documentation and a culture of mentorship also make Rust a welcoming ecosystem. As professionals, we're entering a new stage: - Rust is no longer the "language of enthusiasts". - It is becoming the language of critical systems. - It's a strategic choice for long-term resilience. For Rust engineers, this is both validation and opportunity. Whether you're building secure backend services, optimizing cloud infrastructure, or contributing to open source, the language's trajectory suggests that deep Rust expertise will remain in high demand for years ahead. Akamai Technologies
Kubernetes on cloud should be fast and easy. Developers should not need to figure out how to use clunky features to get to the real work. Easy self-service makes it possible for developers to quickly: – build OCI-compliant images from source code – deploy containerized workloads — the GitOps way – automatically update container images of workloads – publicly expose applications – get instant access to logs, metrics, and traces – create and manage secrets – store images in a private registry – create private Git repositories and use built-in CI/CD pipelines Check out what ease-of-use looks like in the Akamai App Platform: https://ow.ly/WxJG50WuSn9
