“I have truly enjoyed working with Eddie for over 2 years. She is an exemplary professional and has a deep understanding of her client’s needs. She is extremely positive and enthusiastic no matter how challenging a situation is. Eddie has a rare ability to connect with people and make them feel comfortable. I believe this is probably one of the reasons she is so successful in what she does. She is honest and smart and I always know I can count on her for guidance. She is the kind of person who everyone would be proud to have as part of their team.”

In a pivotal year like 2025 where tax has taken center stage, I had the privilege of moderating a dynamic Chief Tax Officer Panel at our recent KPMG US Cross-Border Tax Summit. We were fortunate to hear directly from industry leaders: Scarlet Pereira at Mastercard, Rachel McClain at Graphic Packaging International, Heather Beck Crowder at Phillips 66, and Ryan Smith at Fiserv. Key takeaways from the panel included: 1. The complexity of leading and being part of a tax team today has intensified, with challenges such as navigating simultaneous changes in US and abroad, adapting to shifts in IRS resources, dealing with the politicization of tax in the US and more. These factors make the tax landscape incredibly complex and require strategic navigation. 2. There is increasing adoption of and interest in more advanced generative AI capabilities, like agentic AI. 3. Tax policy in particular remains a top priority for most C-suites and boards, with many closely monitoring the 'trifecta' (the extension of the TCJA provisions this year, the implementation of the global tax deal outside of the US, and ongoing regulatory changes, including tariffs). 4. Transformation is not slowing, leading to an increasing interest in considering managed services models. A big thank you again to our CTOs for joining us to share such unique perspectives and insights – it made for an energizing discussion that undoubtedly left our audience with essential takeaways on navigating this transformative time.

The message from LPs is clear: sharpen your edge or get left behind. The latest KPMG US Private Markets Survey signals a shift in what matters most. Capital deployment still matters, but strategy, stability, and clarity are now leading the conversation. Artificial intelligence is now a top investment priority. Cybersecurity is a baseline expectation. And governance is under real scrutiny. PE firms that lead in innovation and accountability will be the ones who win long-term trust and capital. The rest will have to explain why they didn’t see the shift coming. It’s wonderful to see the collaboration between KPMG US and the Center for Audit Quality (CAQ) come to fruition through the firm’s involvement with the CAQ Accounting+ program, which aims to inspire the next generation of accounting professionals. Chelsey Knapton and Alexandra Sossi have demonstrated their commitment by mentoring and engaging with high school students from Western Pennsylvania at CAQ Accounting+ program events. Chelsey emphasized the importance of #GenAI in the accounting field, while Alexandra offered valuable insights into career goals and progression, motivating young minds. By engaging high school students, KPMG is fostering the development of future audit professionals. The collaboration between KPMG and CAQ ensures that the audit profession remains dynamic, innovative and well-prepared for the future. Together, we are nurturing talent and inspiring passion, making a meaningful impact on future accounting professionals. Thank you Maria Blohm for bringing this story to my attention. #KPMGAuditStoriesofImpact #KPMGAudit

For companies engaged in e-commerce or digital sales, tax automation is no longer a luxury—it's a necessity. Leveraging technology enables businesses to manage nexus obligations, keep up with ever-changing tax rates, and significantly reduce the risk of human error. But automation, if done hastily or without the right guidance, can introduce risks of its own. A wrong assumption, when automated, can quickly multiply into costly errors during audits or due diligence. In this article I co-authored with Angela Acosta, Nick Skarlatos, and Eric Ng we outline five key steps companies should take when considering automation of their indirect tax function. If your organization is exploring indirect tax automation, I encourage you to read the article and reach out with any questions. The right approach can streamline compliance and enhance efficiency—without compromising accuracy. 👉 Read the article #IndirectTax #TaxAutomation #SalesTax #Ecommerce #DigitalTransformation #TaxCompliance #BDO
