On Friday we celebrated the official opening of ISTB12, a 173,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility that reflects Arizona State University’s commitment to the future of advanced manufacturing. As the new home of our School of Manufacturing Systems and Networks on the ASU Polytechnic campus, part of the Polytechnic Innovation Zone, the building will convene students, faculty and industry partners to learn and lead in robotics, automation additive manufacturing and semiconductor systems. Last week, Office of California Governor Gavin Newsom and California State University, Office of the Chancellor Mildred García signed a Memorandum of Understanding launching the CSU–Industry AI Workforce Acceleration Board, a bold, systemwide partnership with leading technology companies like Google, Microsoft, IBM, and Adobe. This collaboration, outlined in the MOU, brings together state, industry, and higher education leaders to ensure that CSU students have equitable access to AI education, training, and career opportunities. Our mission is to prepare a highly skilled and diverse workforce that will shape California’s AI-powered future. I am excited to serve on the AI Workforce Acceleration Board on behalf of San José State University. In the heart of Silicon Valley, SJSU brings our unique strengths, partnerships, and deep commitment to social mobility to this important work, ensuring our Spartans are ready to thrive in an AI-transformed economy. For SJSU, this work is not abstract, it is about ensuring that all students accelerate in the AI Economy.
