Chuck Rayman shared thisOne of my integrators asked me last week to explain the difference between 8-bit and 10-bit color. The difference becomes easier to see when you look at the type of content the wall is displaying. 8-bit gives you 16.7 million colors. 10-bit gives you over a billion. The step up matters when your content has gradients, subtle shifts in tone, or when the space demands a smooth, nearly imperceptible transition from one shade to the next. 8-bit handles most standard applications well. Corporate presentations, digital signage, data visualization, and text-heavy displays generally don't push the limits of color depth. 10-bit becomes the right call in broadcast environments, high-end command centers, experiential retail, and houses of worship, where HDR content, detailed imagery, and smooth tonal transitions are central to the experience. Where I'm seeing it come up most right now is houses of worship. Those environments rely heavily on soft background imagery, gradient washes, and video with a lot of skin tone. Those are exactly the conditions where 8-bit shows its limits. You start to see visible steps between shades instead of one smooth transition. If the content pipeline supports it, and the environment depends on smooth gradients and natural skin tones, 10-bit is usually the right fit.

The tools will keep changing. The names will change. The interfaces will change. The capabilities will change. What will not change is whether your business has clear processes, reliable data, and decisions that do not depend entirely on the owner. That foundation survives platform shifts. Businesses that chase tools without building operational order first end up restarting every time the landscape changes. Businesses with strong operational foundations adapt faster because they already know how the business works. The tools are temporary. Operational order is not. That is the difference between experimenting with AI and building a business that can absorb change.

Chuck Rayman shared thisI was in Chicago last week for an install as well as visiting clients. I lived in Illinois for 25 years, and this city was a regular part of my work life. I’ve been back many times since moving to North Carolina six years ago. Something felt different this time. I landed at O’Hare, picked up a rental car around 8 AM, normally a chaotic experience. One person in front of me. The lobby was quiet. I’m staying downtown because the job is downtown. Walking Jackson, Wacker, Clark, I noticed vacant storefronts I don’t remember seeing vacant before. Not one or two. Enough that I stopped paying attention to the install for a minute and started paying attention to the city. Tonight I’m sitting at Corner Bakery on Jackson, about a block from Union Station. Friday at 6 PM. One other customer in the place. I was here for breakfast too. Quiet then too. I don’t know what’s driving it. Fewer business travelers, slower downtown recovery, remote work, higher costs, something else entirely. I’m not trying to make a broader point. I’m just saying I’ve been coming to this city for a long time, and last week felt different.

What the survey does not measure is how many of those owners understood what they were buying before they bought it. Most learned by doing. That is not criticism. It is just what happens when tools arrive faster than education does. The result is a lot of businesses running AI they cannot fully explain, on processes they have not fully examined. Understanding what AI actually does — and what it requires — is what changes that. Not the next tool.

But Memorial Day exists for a different reason. It belongs to families who sent someone off and got a folded flag back. To spouses who kept going. To kids who grew up with a photograph instead of a parent. To parents who outlived their children in uniform. That weight does not leave a family. It becomes part of who they are. And most of them carry it quietly, every day, not just in late May. If you are in one of those families, or you loved someone who served and did not come home, my thoughts and prayers are with you today. What your family has given is beyond what most of us will ever fully understand. Grateful. Humbled. Salute.

Am I good enough to take a new role? Many people may remember that old Saturday Night Live skit with Al Franken, “Deep Thoughts with Jack Handy.” The hook of the self-esteem joke was his repetition of “I’m smart enough, I’m good looking enough, and doggone it, people like me.” But there is still some truth there, in terms of the job search. Self-doubt and trepidation breeds fear of the next step into your personal “unknown”, despite having a demonstrated full pack of talents and capacity. As with dating looking for one spouse, the job search goal is that one position in a company willing to take a chance on the potential you. 3. Am I starting the right first steps? This may not be an obvious fear, but it still is essential to ask whether you have a process to organize and follow that will endure the stress and strain of the unpredictable job search. Once you’ve decided to move forward with confidence, you must have the right network and toolbox (Resume, LinkedIn Profile and LinkedIn Recommendations) that will help keep you on track and give the best chance for a successful and confident job transition. So many of the fears and concerns in life are identified and resolved in the mind ahead of time before they threaten or are overcome in life. If you can win out against some mind-games and bring a clearer perspective to your job search, you can flatten out a good bit of the emotional roller-coaster. Keep in mind that you will not be in a job transition for the rest of your life, even if it feels that way. Asking and answering these straightforward questions will help fuel the momentum of a successful job search.

Chuck Rayman shared thisMore often than not, after the install is complete and the integrator leaves, content management gets handed to the receptionist. That's not a criticism. It's just what happens. The wall gets passed down the chain until it lands with someone who didn't ask for it, wasn't trained for it, and has twelve other responsibilities. Content without ownership drifts. Updates stop. Strategy disappears. The wall keeps running but nobody is driving it. Someone should own the content the same way someone owns the brand. It should show.

That number is worth sitting with. It is not a budget problem at the top of the list. It is a knowledge problem. Owners want to move forward. They do not have the internal capability to do it well. Most businesses do not have an AI engineer on staff. They do not have a prompt specialist. What they have is an existing employee who was handed a new tool and told to figure it out. Trial and error is not a training strategy. It produces frustration more reliably than results. The gap between wanting to scale AI and knowing how to do it responsibly is exactly where businesses get stuck. That is the work TAKTOS does.

Chuck Rayman shared thisI can't tell you how many times I have walked into a space and seen the same content running on a video wall that was installed two years ago. At some point the wall stops being a display and starts being wallpaper. Nobody notices it anymore. That's not a hardware problem. Sometimes the answer is a content refresh. Sometimes it's a better video wall processor that gives you more flexibility in how content is windowed and managed. Either way, the wall is not the issue. The display is only as current as the content running on it.

Cedric Monroe From my experience, command centers are running thermal feeds, mapping overlays, and live video where color communicates conditions. When precision isn’t there, those distinctions get muddy. But honestly it comes down to the application and the content. Not every command center needs 10-bit. The content drives the spec.
