United Airlines first invested in Archer in 2021 as part of a broader strategy to seek out and partner with innovative technologies that have the potential to reshape our industry and deliver strong returns. Since then, they've made impressive progress.   Adam Goldstein and his team are planning to launch an air taxi network in New York City, giving customers the opportunity to travel from New York area airports to Manhattan in just a few minutes. They also recently completed the first flight of their Midnight aircraft in Abu Dhabi. This was a huge step as they get ready to start commercial service in the UAE and continue scaling this technology worldwide.   The thing about Archer that caught my eye back then was their visionary leadership in the pursuit of a scalable transportation model that would change the way we live and travel. Their journey is just beginning!

Ok, I'm going to say the thing...Flexjet just raised $800 million, valuing the company at approximately $4 billion. Based on their trailing 2024 EBITDA of $398 million, that puts the valuation at just over 10x EBITDA (https://lnkd.in/egdrCsGS) That’s a respectable number and a highly respectable partner, but not exceptional for a company of this size. (Some) private aviation deals in recent years have traded in the 12x to 14x range, particularly for strong-performing private platforms (a caveat on this: operators have not been trading at this range in recent years, smaller firms down to 4-8X in some cases). Some MRO-only-focused companies have even attracted mid-teens multiples, but these are not nearly as capital-intensive as air carriers. Flexjet is a fully scaled business with $2.6 billion in revenue, a large and diversified fleet, and a growing international footprint. So why a 10x multiple? Part of it likely comes down to growth. EBITDA is projected to increase from $398 million in 2024 to $425 million in 2025, representing approximately 7 percent growth. Steady, but not breakaway. There’s also sector-specific risk. Business aviation is capital-intensive and highly cyclical, with exposure to fluctuations in fuel prices, pilot supply constraints, and regulatory changes. Still, the presence of L Catterton, backed by LVMH, brings a strategic angle that could be worth a 'discount'. Luxury brand alignment, global partnerships, and private terminal access can all contribute to a broader strategy that supports future margin expansion. But at this moment, the valuation suggests a mature business priced reasonably but not at a premium. What do you think, is this a fair value for the business? Too low or too high?

Airlines industry will see higher extent of mergers and consolidations during the next decade. Tap Air Portugal is one of the leading and elderly airlines in Europe connecting mainly South America. I think it would be better for the market competition if AFKLM aquire TAP especially when ITA has been bought by Lufthansa ( star alliance ). Meanwhile, I see great potential if #Riyadh_Air or #Saudia_airlines thought about acquiring Tap air Portugal for many reasons: 1- Market access and network expansion to Europe and South America 2- Feeding hub ( RUH and LIS) 3- Transfer knowledge and expertise 4- Increase competition in the aviation industry. Virtual Mergers or JV are another tools to get access to the larger pool of destinations and fruits of such partnerships have been seen by many legacy carriers around the globe. A great example of this is #Vistara where it is a JV of Tata Sons Limited and Singapore Airlines Limited, wherein Tata Sons holds 51% stake in partnership and Singapore Airlines owns 49% stake. The merger of Air India and Vistara has officially been completed on Tuesday, November 12, 2024. The newly merged entity will now operate more than 5,600 weekly flights and connects more than 90 domestic and international destinations with a fleet of 208 aircraft.

Alaska Airlines Update: Alaska Airlines has ordered 105 new 737-10 and five 787 aircraft, extending deliveries through 2035. This includes an option for 35 more 737-10s, enhancing fleet efficiency and enabling new international destinations. CEO Ben Minicucci highlighted the partnership with Boeing and the importance of this investment for Alaska's growth. The new aircraft will ensure guests travel on the latest fuel-efficient planes. As Alaska becomes the fourth largest global airline, it will unveil a new livery inspired by the Aurora Borealis, reflecting its history and commitment to expansion.
