Now most of the public cloud business has been divested to Flexera, NetApp has experienced an exodus of the team responsible for building out much of the Cloud ONTAP capability, including the previous CTO. The company seems very much in a "back to basics" mode once again, with ONTAP the central focus. The expand and contract of the business occurs every few years - think of the SolidFire acquisition, which was eventually discontinued as a product. During that time, NetApp also experimented with HCI. Next was the data fabric and public cloud services, most of which have been sold off to Flexera. Though I enjoy posts like these, I am clear marketing fluff and paid for advertising is still behind the majority of solutions. There are a ton of enterprise ready solutions, even in the open source space that are beyond viable options.   I have personally witnessed a conversation at the highest levels inside a Health group, where internally, their remote desktop director, was doing something that benefits the company he came from and NOT The Health group. This and much more will soon will come to light.
