SFTP has been the status quo in the retirement space for decades, but new compliance rules now demand real-time data access. Nasrin Mazooji, COO at Ubiquity Retirement + Savings, on why the retirement industry is shifting from SFTP to API connections: "SFTP is generally fine when payroll files are simple, predictable, and quarterly corrections are acceptable. But we almost need data in real time to manage daily entry, new employees entering, making benefit elections every day, every hour." The operational burden was substantial: Ubiquity spent thousands of hours annually on manual exception management. APIs changed the equation.
