I had the opportunity to speak at the SimOps Workshop in Los Gatos, a gathering of hardware engineers, simulation experts, high performance computing practitioners who are shaping the future of simulation operations. 💡 One clear takeaway: engineers now want to do much more with their simulation data. What used to end at verification is evolving into continuous optimization and insight generation. This shift is creating new best practices in data preparation, automation, and analytics, and the SimOps community will continue to define these along with the KPIs that measure real progress. Grateful to everyone who contributed their perspectives and energy. The discussions and feedback reaffirmed that SimOps isn’t just a framework. 🚀 [Challenge one Alert for Healthcare track] Calling all AI enthusiasts! Summer Bootcamp 25 kicks off with Challenge one—a unique test of your technical + creative AI skills. The Task for Healthcare track: Predicting diabetes using the Pima Indians dataset by analyzing key health metrics with machine learning to enable early detection and better healthcare outcomes. The Pima Indians Diabetes dataset presents a critical challenge: predicting whether a patient has diabetes based on clinical features like glucose levels, BMI, and insulin levels. Why This Matters Diabetes affects millions worldwide, and early detection can save lives. By leveraging ML models, we can uncover hidden patterns in medical data to assist in diagnosis and prevention. Key Steps in My Analysis 1️⃣ Data Exploration: Checked distributions, missing values, and correlations. 2️⃣ Preprocessing: Handled missing data, scaled features, and balanced classes. 3️⃣ Model Building: Tested Logistic Regression, Random Forest, and XGBoost. 4️⃣ Evaluation: Used accuracy, precision, recall, and ROC-AUC to assess performance. Insights & Takeaways Glucose levels and BMI were among the most predictive features. Tree-based models (Random Forest, XGBoost) outperformed linear models. Class imbalance was a challenge—oversampling helped improve recall. Last week in Santa Clara, something clicked. We brought together educators, industry leaders, and workforce development experts for the Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology and Workforce Development Workshop at Festo's Customer Experience Center, and the conversations were exactly what this industry needs more of. Think about it. We talk a lot about the semiconductor skills gap. But how often do the people who can actually fix it sit in the same room? Shari Liss from SEMI Americas opened with a keynote on workforce challenges facing the semiconductor industry right now. Roger Tadajewski of NC3 - National Coalition of Certification Centers walked us through how certifications and curriculum pathways create real career on-ramps. Emily Howarth from Siemens made a compelling case for the modern technician as a system interpreter, someone who bridges tools, processes, and disciplines that were never designed to talk to each other. We also heard from KEYENCE CORPORATION on visual inspection and ESD protection, SICK Sensor Intelligence on robot and machine safety in the fab, Teradyne Robotics on frictionless robotic material handling, Kurt J. Lesker Company on vacuum and deposition fundamentals, and Ted Rozier and Bradley Shields from Festo Didactic - North America on aligning industry needs with education systems to actually move the needle on outcomes. The day wrapped with a guided tour of the Intel Museum in Santa Clara. Hard to beat that as a reminder of where this industry came from and where it's going.
