Thanks to Tim Liillwitz, President of the Des Moines Rotary Club, for introducing me to the organization's membership last Thursday. It was a year ago that a good friend suggested I check out Rotary as a way to get to know business leaders from around the area. I was skeptical about its relevance to me. I was never much of a fraternal kind of guy. All I really knew about the group was that people joined to network and that it had a strong foreign student exchange program. Wow, was I surprised by how much good this group does in the world. Every Thursday, I get to share conversations with the remarkable people and hear a wide range of community leaders discuss inspiring topics that deeply affect people. I'm now part of an organization that has strengthened our community in extraordinary ways, from one of our founding missions to irradicate Polio to our recent focus on battling human trafficking. Even bigger, our club joins over 35,000 clubs making up our global community, who every year are making a difference, one small, quiet act at a time. It feels good to be part of an organization creating a lasting butterfly effect benefiting our common humanity. Especially now!
