Adding a new device to your IoT fleet shouldn't mean writing new code. Excited to be working on an edge IoT solution at Nobel Systems, Inc. for monitoring water distribution systems. We are currently field testing the solution at one of our customer locations. One of the biggest engineering challenges is detecting significant pressure drop events, such as hydrant hits, in highly dynamic pressure zones without relying on fixed pressure alarm setpoints. Instead, we are developing an edge algorithm that analyzes pressure trends over time and continuously refining it using real-world field data to accurately distinguish significant pressure drop events from normal hydraulic fluctuations. The Particle Monitor One has made rapid iteration possible through over-the-air (OTA) firmware updates, allowing us to improve the algorithm without visiting the device each time. Combined with a solar-powered deployment, we can continuously collect field data, validate new approaches, and further improve the detection algorithm. It's been a great learning experience to see how real-world hydraulic behavior differs from simulations.
