Still managing projects through email and side notes? It might feel efficient from your seat, but once work is shared amongst many, email stops working as a system. I see this a lot with well-run, established teams. Workflows were designed in a disconnected and analog environment, but work today has grown more complex and integrated. More people are involved. More handoffs. More dependencies. Yet, the way projects are tracked hasn’t changed much. If project and workflow visibility lives in inboxes or personal notebooks: - Context gets lost - Updates get repeated (or missed) - Ownership blurs - Leaders and team members end up chasing status instead of making decisions This is not a case of new tools for new tools' sake. It's about shared visibility and clearer delegation of ownership so people can effectively move work forward - together. One thing I’ve learned over time, and it's more relevant today: People will look elsewhere if they decide an organization’s rate of adaptation will limit their own growth. We’ve all had those days where the workday turns into a scavenger hunt. You’re clicking through folders like they’re Russian nesting dolls. You’re typing the same keyword into email… again. 1️⃣ You can’t have two #1 priorities. 2️⃣ You can have a few top priorities — but only one gets the crown. 3️⃣ Anyone you delegate to can only have one #1. 4️⃣ Lead strategically. Not reactively. Most teams don’t stall progress because of effort or intent. When everything feels urgent, nothing is truly important. And, that’s the problem. Teammates get lost if every task is a “must-do.” Pick the real #1. Clear the path. Let the others support the direction — not compete with it. These are interesting times. I’ve had really good conversations with people who are looking to up their game in an environment where results don’t always follow effort. Some of them are individual performers, while others are leading teams. There is a common theme, what worked before isn’t working as well today. Instead of piling more activities and priorities on top of old ones, lighten the load. Remove noise and time-suck activities that aren’t tied to your number 1. Most of us underestimate one big thing: how long real results actually take. We’re surrounded by short-term expectations—fast revenue, fast fixes, fast growth. What we may know, but frequently forget, is that real, lasting results don’t show up immediately. Even strong performers start second-guessing themselves when the results needle is stubbornly sluggish. But almost every meaningful outcome—in business or in life—follows the same pattern: 1 workout doesn’t make you fit 1 healthy meal doesn’t make you healthy 1 early morning doesn’t build a habit 1 sales call doesn’t build a pipeline But give it 3–6 months of consistent effort, and everything changes. The “long game” isn’t slow. It’s compound. The payoffs just arrive later than the effort. If you’re doing the right work but your results aren’t visible yet, stay the course. Momentum is building where you can’t see it yet. Been staring at that screen a bit too long? It’s probably time to take a well needed break and let your brain and body do magic on solving some things that have been floating around in your head. Easier said than done? Privatizing Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac sounds great to many — at least in principle. But housing finance, and the oversized role the GSEs play, make it a massive balancing act to pull off correctly. And it can’t flop — the fallout would be an unmitigated disaster. They were absorbed into the federal government and given an explicit guarantee, replacing the implicit one that existed before. Removing that guarantee means they’d have to float entirely on their own - not something to be taken lightly! Stability, capitalization, and liquidity are critical factors that simply can’t be fumbled in execution — especially as access to housing finance has grown more challenging in recent years.
