About us

About Wildwood Programs Wildwood provides supports and services to people of all ages with conditions described as developmental disabilities, complex learning disabilities and autism spectrum disorders. At Wildwood we value understanding each individual as a whole and unique person. Our organization was created in 1967 when a group of parents found that their children did not fit neatly into existing programs. What began as a program for a handful of pre-schoolers has grown into an organization that provides comprehensive supports and services to over 1000 people and families every year. Children as young as three and adults enjoying their senior years receive supports and services in every life area in an environment where they are accepted, respected and valued. Wildwood Programs was founded by families who created innovative supports and creative services as needs were identified. That same creativity and ingenuity continues today as Wildwood staff continually works with the people receiving services and their families to meet individualized needs. Everyday challenges are seen as the catalyst for growth, learning and the adaptation to the environment that surrounds all of us. The goal for everyone at Wildwood is to live a life that maximizes independence, fulfillment and productivity. Wildwood puts the people they support and their families at the forefront of everything they do. They actively invest in staff by strengthening workplace culture, supporting growth, and encouraging long-term commitment to the organization. Madison was proud to share how her employer has supported her journey: "Wildwood has played a critical role in my ability to pursue higher education while continuing to do meaningful work. They have consistently provided the flexibility needed to balance full-time employment with my academic responsibilities, offered tuition reimbursement, and created space for me to actively apply my degree."     Shevy Flavius and Ernie Dillon recently sat down with CBS 6 Albany to share their story and highlight the impact of supportive relationships and community inclusion. Shevy and Ernie share a bond built on kindness and trust. Through her role as a DSP, Shevy supports Ernie’s independence and advocates alongside him so he can live the life he chooses. Together, they show how meaningful connections can enrich both lives.

    Check out this generous donation from this weekend's Capital Region Flower & Garden Expo! A portion of each ticket sold is directly donated to Wildwood as well as in-kind support through marketing, booth rental, opening the sensory room, and more. Our volunteers had a wonderful time talking with everyone about Wildwood's mission. Thank you to everyone involved in making this weekend such a success!

    Today is World Down Syndrome Day! You might notice a lot of colorful, mismatched socks today, and there is a symbolic, scientific reason behind it: The Shape: Under a microscope, chromosomes are actually shaped like tiny socks! The "Extra" Pair: Down Syndrome occurs when an individual has a third copy of the 21st chromosome. That’s why we celebrate on 3/21—and why we wear "extra" fun, mismatched socks to represent that unique difference. The Celebration: By rocking our wildest socks, we celebrate the vibrant perspectives, talents, and contributions of people with Down Syndrome in our community. Our goal today is to spark conversations that advocate for the rights, inclusion, and well-being of every individual we support at Wildwood. When someone asks about your socks today, tell them it’s about building a world where everyone belongs! And if you want, post your mismatched sock pics below!
