  • EASTER EGGSTRAVAGANZA 🐰 The #Easter Bunny paid a special visit to New Lisbon Correctional Institution (NLCI) on Monday! Parents and their children spent the day together making crafts, decorating cookies, hunting for eggs and playing games like carrot corn hole, ring toss and even a bunny hop bag race. For lunch, they enjoyed a meal from a food truck and finished the afternoon with a snack bar. It was a successful day with many great memories made for all. Thank you to the #WICorrections staff who made this incredible event possible for these families!

  • Congratulations to Oshkosh Correctional Institution (OSCI) on winning a 2025 #Recycling Excellence Award from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR)! ♻️ In 2004, the #vermiculture program was started with only a couple pounds of red wiggler worms. Today, this has grown to approximately 420 pounds of red wigglers that fill 284 worm beds and enough nightcrawlers to fill 16 barrels. Why all the worms? 🐛 Vermiculture is a process of using earthworms to #recycle organic waste into nutrient-rich compost. From July 2024 to June 2025, OSCI recycled approximately 57,600 pounds of food waste, which was consumed by the worms or added to the vermiculture or #horticulture compost piles. The program also utilizes shredded paper, old t-shirts, blankets, egg and fruit crates, coffee and filters, sawdust and plastic containers that are repurposed to sell worm castings. • 10 Years of PAWS Program 🐾 Since its inception in 2016, nearly 300 dogs have received #servicedog training at Stanley Correctional Institution! The first group started with eight dogs, affectionately referred to as "The Great Eight." Handlers spend approximately 3 hours a day training the dogs on obedience and other skills with the assistance of Can Do Canines. More than 180 persons in our care have served in this role. The overall success rate for these dogs is over 71%—well above the national average of around 50%. The 10-year anniversary was commemorated last week during a celebration with Can Do Canines Assistance Dogs clients, staff, volunteers and other guests. Many thanks to our #WICorrections staff, volunteers, and PIOC for their teamwork and collaboration to make the PAWS program a success!
