About us
Whitewater Valley Rural Electric Membership Corporation is a not-for-profit utility distributing electricity to nearly 13,000 meters across its six-county service area in east-central Indiana. Located in Liberty, Ind., the cooperative employs 28 people. Our mission is to provide power for our member-owners to enhance their quality of life. But we don't stop there. An active member of the community, Whitewater Valley REMC and its employees support the area through a variety of scholarships, financial contributions, in-kind donations, volunteerism, and other programs. Whitewater Valley REMC is a distribution co-op — we do not generate our own electricity. Hoosier Energy, based in Bloomington, is our electric cooperative’s power supplier, along with 17 other southern Indiana and Illinois electric distribution cooperatives. Hoosier Energy operates one coal-fired generating plant and two additional natural gas-fired peaking stations. It delivers energy over a high-voltage transmission network.

What a fantastic day we had yesterday hosting the Member Support/ Customer Service Regional Meeting! We had a great time networking with our sister cooperatives, chatting with WWV's CEO, and getting insights from our linemen about their daily routines. Participants even enjoyed participating in a hands-on demo! We also discussed the importance of cybersecurity and AI, wrapping up with round table discussions. Thanks to everyone who participated and made this event a success! #Networking #Cooperatives #Community

We had a fantastic time at Union County High School's Career Fair, where Whitewater Valley REMC had the honor of sharing the exciting career opportunities available at distribution cooperatives with 6th-12th graders! A huge shoutout to Brad Wildman & Clay Smith for spending the entire day engaging with students and sharing their experiences as linemen. A special thank you to Randy Ballinger, Mary Jo Thomas, Derrick Mullins, and Melody Lynch from WWVREMC for joining us throughout the day and making the event even more special. This week, our team came together for an enriching and impactful all-employee training day. 🚀 We kicked things off by diving deep into the lifecycle of an outage, equipping ourselves with the knowledge and skills to respond quickly and effectively when things go awry. Being proactive in handling challenges is essential to maintaining a smooth operation, and we’re better prepared because of it. Next, we had the privilege of learning active shooter response strategies from the amazing Jon Elkins His expertise and guidance on how to protect ourselves and others in such critical situations were invaluable. Safety will always be our top priority. In the afternoon, we shifted gears to focus on strengthening our company culture, with the brilliant Michael Craciunoiu, PCC leading activities that foster collaboration, trust, and a positive environment. It’s days like these that remind us how lucky we are to be part of a team that values both growth and connection. Grateful for this learning opportunity and the incredible people who make our team stronger every day. Let’s keep building and growing together! 💪
