Celebrating 60 years of connecting everyone to the outdoors and building a community that gives back to trails.
About us
Washington Trails Association mobilizes hikers and everyone who loves the outdoors to explore, steward and champion trails and public lands. Everyone deserves to have opportunities to recreate outdoors and to have safe, welcoming and inclusive experiences on trail. If there’s one thing we know — it’s that trails and access to the outdoors are a must-have. Help us ensure more people have access to the benefits of time spent in nature. Let’s build that future together. We are a collaborative and fun community of passionate individuals, motivating each other to give our best efforts at work. Although we may be tackling some of the biggest problems facing hikers and public lands — we inspire and challenge each other to be fierce, take risks and celebrate when we can. You won't want to miss the next edition of Washington Trails Magazine, featuring some fun visionary stories about the future of trails. Become a member by 5/27 to get magazine this summer: give.wta.org/magazine
Folks: I am SO excited to share about a story I've written for the upcoming edition of Washington Trails magazine. Washington Trails Association is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year with a bold, inclusive vision for the future of trails. So, inspired by the Visionary Fiction work of Walidah Imarisha and adrienne maree brown, I set out to answer this question: "If we get it right together, what will trails and public lands be like in another 60 years?" Set in 2086, the story puts you in a time machine to a future where we've not only come together to protect the places we love — but we've also successfully implemented systems and infrastructure to make the outdoors genuinely accessible to everyone. I had the immense joy of working with artist Latasha Dunston Greene to illustrate the story. This drawing is a small sneak preview of the beautiful, two-page spread she crafted. And ... guess what? It's going to be on the cover, too! You won't want to miss this edition! To make sure it's in your mailbox or inbox, become a WTA member before May 26 (see comments for link).

Trail work is something we do. Connection is what we’re about. “Three years and three positions later, I know one thing to be true: I have found a place where I can not only exist, but thrive,” says Liza Noworyta, professional crew coordinator. WTA crews are making progress after a rough winter. Spring trails are feeling the effects of last winter’s storms. WTA Backcountry Response Teams are volunteer trail maintenance crews who are helping to fix some of our favorite trails statewide, like: ⛏️ Turtleback Mountain Preserve (Orcas Island) ⛏️ Upper Lena Lake (Olympic Peninsula) ⛏️ Moore Point (Lake Chelan) ⛏️ Duckabush River (Olympic Peninsula) 📸 Photos courtesy Kesia Lee, Scott Gustin and Tien Vo #Nonprofit #Washington #Volunteer
