  • People with passion make things happen. It’s written in our core values and something that is exemplified in this case. This summer, Scrum Master Addison Waege and Engineer Brandon Volz set out on a fundraiser to support those with Multiple Sclerosis in the Bike MS: Bike to Jack and Back 2026 event. They incentivized the fundraising in tiers, raising more than $10,000 and contributing to more than half a million dollars in total funds raised in the event! The milestones included a hot chicken wing challenge, shaving their heads, and a PERMANENT Vertech tattoo and chicken outfit! Well, the chicken outfit wasn’t permanent—but Brandon wore that for the duration of the ride in lieu of tattoo. As they say, “pics or it didn’t happen.” We’ll be sure to follow up with documentation of those milestones in future posts. Even Vertech CEO Titus Crabb got in on the action, committing to getting a permanent tattoo at the $5k mark. Brandon and Addison inspired others—including many Vertechians—to donate, and secured matching donations from Vertech and an anonymous donor. They made things happen. Interested in supporting the team to create a world free of MS? There’s still a chance to donate until November 11, 2026: https://lnkd.in/gu2k6PkT

  • You know your project’s costs. Shouldn’t you also know the profitability? Digitalization for food and beverage manufacturing targets your controllable costs. After the break-even, it fattens your margin. That’s a compelling reason to get the green light from finance. Our latest white paper covers scenario planning and formulas so you can calculate the potential ROI and make a financially-justified case for your digitalization plans. • We couldn’t have said it better. Those mistakes are great experience and teachers, but sometimes they are lessons better learned through others. Plus, it’s healthy to laugh at ourselves a bit in retrospect, share a slice of humble pie and grow. We’ll get better each time.

𝐇𝐨𝐥𝐲 𝐒𝐦𝐨𝐤𝐞𝐬. When we proposed the CSIA panel "Avoiding Million-Dollar Mistakes in Automation Projects" at ICC 2026, I knew it would be an interesting conversation because we gathered some really awesome panelists. I *didn't* expect more than 300 people to pack the room, with several others telling us afterward they were turned away because there was no space left!! That level of interest says something important: system integrators are hungry to learn from other system integrators. They want real-world stories, honest lessons learned, and practical insights from people who have lived through both the successes and the mistakes. And this session was special not just because of the size of the audience. It was the openness and vulnerability demonstrated by Elizabeth Hill Reed, Ryan Crownover, and Cassy Gardner, PMP, MBA as they shared experiences from projects that didn't always go according to plan and the lessons those experiences taught them. Their discussion was thoughtful, candid, and incredibly valuable. That spirit of peer-to-peer learning is exactly what we strive to foster at the Control System Integrators Association (CSIA). When industry leaders are willing to share what worked, what didn't, and what they would do differently, everyone benefits and the entire industry gets stronger. A huge thank you to Elizabeth, Ryan, and Cassy (as well as to DMC Engineering, E Tech Group, and Vertech!) for a first-rate discussion, and to Inductive Automation for creating a community where these conversations can happen. #ICC2026 #ICCUnleashed #IndustrialAutomation #SystemIntegration #CSIA

  • On the stage at #ICCUnleashed, Vertech’s Ryan Crownover joins 🐯 Michael Freedman of Tiger Data (creators of TimescaleDB) to talk lossless, reliable data collection for data center operations. Attendees were treated to a taste of what we’ve built for these sophisticated facilities. For unique technology requirements and challenges that call for best-in-class solutions, we’ve turned to TimescaleDB as our go to for purpose-built storage for high volumes of data. We are excited about TimescaleDB Enterprise for it's scalability and management features so our customers get the benefits of the solution while our developers can focus on the other details and challenges of the project. We’re looking forward to more to come this week!

  • Well, we can’t travel into the future yet, but we caught a glimpse of it with aspiring engineers at last week’s Georgia Tech career fair. We love meeting students who are passionate about their field of study and eager to find a workplace that values innovation and teamwork. We’re hoping they also appreciate our dad jokes – it’s okay to cringe just a little if they are a bit cheesy. Our own Brent Severn, Megan McKeown, Terry Williams (left to right) were joined by Addison Waege’s arm (also pictured on the far left) and Avery Rees (photographer and Campus Recruiting Lead). We’re on the road to other top tech and engineering schools in search of talented individuals, so be on the lookout! We’re looking forward to meeting more people and who knows, maybe we’ll figure out that time travel thing together.

  • "𝘐 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘪𝘵 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘢 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘯 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘰𝘨𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳." — Hannibal, A-Team Last week, our leadership team sat down with our partners at Catchment Capital in Nashville to mark a big milestone: the “handshake” on the next phase of Vertech's 5-year strategic plan. The celebration is the culmination of several months of work, but there’s more ahead of us. Here's the thing: this isn't just an internal milestone. It's groundwork for something bigger. We're building the capacity, capability, and bench strength to take on the biggest, most complex projects we've ever tackled. There’s so much cool stuff in the works for Vertech. None of that happens without Catchment Capital believing in where we're headed and backing the plan with us. This next chapter is very much a team effort, and we're grateful to be building it alongside partners who get the vision.

  • Some people shy away from numbers, but for engineers, plant managers and operations folks it just comes with the territory. But we’re not talking about 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘴𝘦 kinds of numbers today. We’re talking 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭 numbers in terms of what drives the business and generates a return. Don’t worry, we’re staying fully in our lane on this one. Let’s say you have a project in mind, something you know is right for the company, but you need to prove it to get the green light and the green stuff to make it happen. That’s why we’re introducing this white paper and accompanying tools. The author and Vertech Product Owner Drew Bellcock explains, “Ultimately, plant managers and operations folks have to report to a finance team. They have to be able to speak the finance team's language to advocate for what their needs are to make the business better.” We invite you to plug your own numbers into the model and estimate the costs of implementation, the savings and the total return on investment over time. You can initiate informed conversations centered around the financial justification for your project. Download the “𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗥𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀” today. It’s packed with meaty research and sweet formulas that address complex food and beverage manufacturing costs, but the information applies to other manufacturers as well. • If your MES is running but it still feels like it's operating on its own island, you're not imagining that. A lot of plants get the MES in, get it stabilized, and figure the hard part's done. But an MES that isn't talking to your ERP is only doing half its job. Your production data is sitting there, accurate and real time, and meanwhile your planning and scheduling teams are still working off numbers from yesterday or last week. Nobody planned it that way. It just happens when the systems never got properly introduced to each other. Same story with SPC. A lot of beverage plants are still catching quality issues after the fact, during a review, during an audit, sometimes only when a customer complains. By the time that data reaches a person who can act on it, the batch is already made. The drift already happened. SPC done right catches that drift while it's still small enough to fix on the line, not after it's shipped. Here's the part that's easy to miss. None of this is really about buying more technology. Most plants already own what they need. The MES is there. The ERP is there. The gap is in the wiring between them, and that's a different kind of problem than the one that got solved when the MES first went in. It's worth asking yourself a genuinely simple question. If someone in your ERP system wanted to know what's happening on your line right now, could they actually see it? And if a quality metric started drifting mid shift, would anyone know before the shift ended? If the honest answer is no, you're not behind. You're just at the point almost every plant reaches once the MES has been running a while. The systems did their individual jobs. Now they need to do their job together. #MES #SystemIntegration
