A team of UT Dallas engineering students is headed to NASA’s Johnson Space Center to present a redesigned lunar tool-cart handle built for future moon missions. Team Laika’s prototype focuses on astronaut safety, ergonomics and functionality in extreme lunar conditions and will even be tested in NASA’s Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory. What sounds like science fiction is becoming reality. UT Dallas alumnus Ben Collerton MS’23 is helping lead genetic engineering work at Colossal Biosciences, where scientists are developing technologies aimed at bringing extinct species like the dodo and woolly mammoth back to life. ICYMI: UT Dallas researchers are using AI to help cities make smarter road repair decisions. In collaboration with NEXCO-Central, the CAIML team developed a system that analyzes pavement conditions and helps local governments prioritize which roads to fix first, balancing budgets, infrastructure needs and community impact.
