Late yesterday, we issued a request for proposals for a Vessel Construction Manager to oversee the acquisition of the new Medium Landing Ship (LSM). This new strategy is designed to maximize commercial practices to accelerate delivery, improve cost discipline, and support expansion of the U.S. shipbuilding industrial base. Combined with the Navy’s selection of Damen Naval’s LST 100 – a proven, non-developmental design – we are reducing risk and approaching acquisition differently to build faster and more efficiently for our US Navy and United States Marine Corps team.
