One of our very own, Dan Gansel, is presenting at fwd:cloudsec 2026 this June 1st, and the work he's bringing is brilliant. Dan, an Upwind Security Researcher, identified a fully functional command-and-control channel that operates inside the AWS Data Perimeter, the cloud-native gold standard for keeping sensitive data inside a trusted environment. The attack uses two paths and only legitimate Bedrock AgentCore capabilities. AWS validated both channels, deployed a fix, and is coordinating a joint public statement with our team. Ahead of the talk, we sat down with Dan to learn how he thinks about cloud security research. The conversation covered the hypothesis behind where security gaps actually live, why new managed services deserve extra scrutiny and what a month spent failing on a different service taught him.
