A mind is a terrible thing to waste, but a wonderful thing to invest in.

About us

UNCF (United Negro College Fund) is the nation’s largest and most effective minority education organization. During its 80-year existence, UNCF has raised more than $6 billion and helped more than 500,000 students not just attend college, but thrive, graduate and become leaders. To serve youth, the community and the nation, UNCF supports students’ education and development through scholarships and other programs, supports and strengthens its 37 member colleges and universities, and advocates for the importance of minority education and college readiness. While totaling only 3% of all colleges and universities, UNCF institutions and other historically Black colleges and universities are highly effective, awarding 15% of bachelor’s degrees, 5% of master’s degrees, 10% of doctoral degrees and 19% of all STEM degrees earned by Black students in higher education. UNCF administers more than 400 programs, including scholarship, internship and fellowship, mentoring, summer enrichment, and curriculum and faculty development programs. Today, UNCF supports more than 50,000 students at over 1,100 colleges and universities across the country. Its logo features the UNCF torch of leadership in education and its widely recognized trademark, ‟A mind is a terrible thing to waste.”® Learn more at UNCF.org or for continuous updates and news, follow UNCF on Instagram at @UNCF.

As a trusted advisor to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and a brilliant legal strategist behind some of the civil rights movement’s most defining moments, Clarence B. Jones helped shape words that challenged a nation and inspired generations. From helping develop portions of the “I Have a Dream” speech to preserving the historic “Letter from Birmingham Jail,” his impact on American history remains immeasurable. UNCF honors his lifelong commitment to justice, leadership, and the advancement of Black voices, stories, and future leaders. #UNCF #ClarenceBJones #CivilRights #BlackHistory #RestinPower

For more than 180 years, HBCUs have produced leaders, fueled innovation, and strengthened communities across America — often while operating with limited resources and aging infrastructure. Today, many HBCU campuses continue to face significant infrastructure challenges, from deteriorating facilities to limited access to modern technology and broadband connectivity. These barriers impact the ability of institutions to fully meet the demands of a rapidly evolving workforce and economy. The IGNITE HBCU Excellence Act represents a critical investment in the future of HBCUs. By supporting campus modernization, infrastructure improvements, broadband expansion, and new academic and student spaces, this legislation will help institutions grow enrollment, expand research opportunities, and better prepare students for high-demand careers. HBCUs have consistently demonstrated excellence despite systemic underinvestment. It is time for federal investment to match their impact and potential. Join us in urging Congress and the White House to pass the IGNITE HBCU Excellence Act and invest in the future of HBCUs. #HBCUIGNITE #HBCUExcellence #InvestInHBCUs #HBCUPride
