A Shared Visual Language For Learning
About us
Thinking Maps, Inc., is an education solutions provider working with K-12 schools and districts to raise student achievement levels and build teacher capacity to serve students of all backgrounds and ability levels. Founded in 1990 and now owned by Edjuncture, Inc., Thinking Maps provides research-based professional development, teacher resources, and online tools for students and educators. Their programs include A Language for Learning, Write from the Beginning…and Beyond, A Path to Proficiency for English Language Learners, and Building a Language for Leadership. Thinking Maps Leaders (powered by EdJuncture) uses Thinking Maps to facilitate leadership discussions and change at the district level. Thinking Maps is a whole-school, brain-based approach to teaching and learning that builds foundational critical thinking, problem-solving, comprehension, and communication skills necessary for academic success. Developed by Dr. David Hyerle based on decades of cognitive research, Thinking Maps is a common visual “language for learning” that is used across all grade levels and content areas. When used with consistency, third-party studies show that Thinking Maps schools are more than 2x as likely to surpass average district growth rates in reading and 2.7x as likely to surpass average district growth rates in math. Language is a critical foundation for learning. For students at Lexington School for the Deaf in New York, Thinking Maps is a shared visual language that helps all students participate and succeed, regardless of their previous language experiences. Thinking Maps has also become an essential part of the school culture, fostering communication and collaboration for students, teachers and non-teaching staff. When every student has a common language for thinking, every student can succeed. Read more about how Thinking Maps has made a difference here: https://lnkd.in/ew599kbs
