When Amelia Garcia was born with severe heart complications, a transplant offered her family hope for a future, thanks, in large part, to research and innovation driven by collaborations among academia, industry and essential funding from The National Institutes of Health (NIH). The NIH funds research that leads to transplant diagnostic technologies like those from Thermo Fisher that have revolutionized donor-recipient matching—now an essential part of transplantation, says Tina Liedtky. These innovations directly benefit patients like Amelia and their families, reducing invasive procedures and improving post-transplant quality of life. Today, Amelia's mother says, she is growing and thriving, thanks to the transformative power of transplantation. This week we were honored to welcome a bipartisan group of Members of Congress to two of our U.S. sites. In Richmond, VA, Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan and Congressman Rob Wittman visited our site, home to one of the world’s largest bioanalytical laboratories. During their tour, we highlighted our specialized immunochemistry work and the critical role life sciences play in driving innovation. We’re grateful for their shared commitment to supporting research, discovery, and the patients our customers serve. Meanwhile, in Rockford, IL, we hosted Congressman Darin LaHood, who toured the R&D, manufacturing and distribution areas where we make and ship products that help customers study protein functions in key fields like biochemistry, neurobiology, toxicology, and cancer research. Congressman LaHood also spoke directly with colleagues about the impact of their innovative work. Thank you, Congresswoman McClellan, Congressman Wittman, and Congressman LaHood, for fostering meaningful dialogues and championing critical life sciences innovation. Together, we will continue to push the boundaries of research and healthcare.

Labs can consume up to 10x the energy and 4x the water of standard office spaces, significantly impacting the environment. To combat this, life science organizations are leveraging their technical expertise and innovative solutions to introduce greener practices. Nonprofit My Green Lab is leading the charge through educational programs and initiatives with companies like Thermo Fisher to help ensure labs and suppliers are advancing sustainability, from product design to site operations and more. In the spirit of Earth Day this month, James Connelly, CEO of My Green Lab, and Alyssa Caddle, Director of Global Sustainability at Thermo Fisher, joined the Science with a Twist podcast to discuss the importance and business value of sustainability initiatives in lab environments. Recently, I had the opportunity to visit three Thermo Fisher sites in the U.S. – including our pharma services facility in St. Louis, Missouri, and our clinical research services facilities in Highland Heights, Kentucky, and Morrisville, North Carolina. These operations support our biotech and pharmaceutical customers in bringing new medicines to patients by providing services that support the entire drug-development journey. · Our Highland Heights site is home to our central laboratory services, which provides analytical testing for all stages of clinical trials. · Our St. Louis site is focused on developing and manufacturing biologic drugs for diseases such as psoriasis, hemophilia and various types of cancer. · Our teams in Morrisville provide clinical development and patient and advisory services -- designing and managing clinical trials, from early development through post-approval. At all three sites, it was inspiring to see the outstanding work our colleagues are doing to fulfill our Mission to enable our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner and safer. And, it was great to engage with these teams in person. To our colleagues all over the world, thank you for the work you do every day, which makes a huge difference for our customers and our world.
