🌳🌴🌲 It is with immense joy that I disclose the final program of the Brain Gardeners’ Club! Co-organized by Robeauté and Greater Paris University Hospitals - AP-HP @Hôtel-Dieu and surrounded by a great ecosystem, this second edition will take place on Monday, July 7th in Paris. Physicians, neuroscientists, start-ups and decisive stakeholders will gather to discuss brain therapies and initiate fruitful collaborations. Why the Brain Gardeners’ Club? This is a defining moment in history for #brain therapies! The brain, medicine’s final frontier, is no longer untouchable. It is accessible—technologically, intellectually, and emotionally. The scientific community is converging on a new collective grammar—shared principles, methods, and breakthroughs—that allow us to decode and intervene in the brain in unprecedented ways. What’s changing is not just technology—but mindset. A Copernican shift is underway in clinical thinking. Medical pioneer practioneers are demanding more than elegant protocols that soon fail to cure. This revolution will not be led by lone individuals. It will be built by ecosystems. And those ecosystems must mirror the organ we aim to heal: decentralized, adaptive, and deeply interconnected. This is why we are gathering. We are Brain Gardeners. We believe the future of neuromedicine depends on deeply collaborative, transdisciplinary, radically imaginative efforts. We plant seeds for tomorrow’s therapies today. Initiated in Europe, the Brain Gardeners’ Club is our collective response to this moment: a grassroots, international salon of scientists, clinicians, creators, start-ups, and doers committed to rewriting the future of brain health. A Movement. We are not waiting. We are building!

When it comes to treatments, not all side effects are equal. So how do we really compare treatments in a fair way? julie josse and Mathieu Even, postdoc at Inria working with Theremia 🧬, proposed an approach that better approximates the individual-level treatment effect in the context of hierarchical outcomes. This rethinks the Win Ratio (a method recommended by the FDA to weigh both how well a treatment works and how serious the side effects are). Depending on how the Win Ratio is calculated, the result can be completely different and even recommend the wrong treatment in some cases... This is the why, the presented work introduces a smarter and fairer way to: ➖ Compare treatments when outcomes are complex ➖ Take into account which side effects matter more ➖ Get more accurate answers - even outside clinical trials This approach has already been validated from a major trial among patients with traumatic brain injury. 🧬 This could help make treatment decisions safer and smarter, which is at heart of Theremia's ambition.
Senior researcher in statistics, machine learning, applications in health, personalized medicine, Inria, head of Premedical team - Femme de Tech de l’Académie des Technologies
Premedical research update: Last week, Mathieu Even, postdoc at Inria working with Theremia, presented his latest work in the Double/Debiased Machine Learning session at the International Biometric Society (IBS) conference in Liège. He discussed the Win Ratio, an FDA-recommended method for assessing treatment effects on multiple prioritized outcomes (e.g., survival first, then avoiding stroke, etc.). Using a causal inference framework, we propose a new version of the Win Ratio that exposes potential flaws in the classical method, specifically cases where it may suggest a treatment is beneficial when it’s actually harmful!
