  • English is Shehan's second language. And this completely changed how he approaches content writing. When English isn't your first language, you can't write on autopilot. Every word choice matters. Every phrase had to land with intention. You're repeatedly asking: Why am I choosing this word? How will the reader actually receive it? And that question—that awareness—is everything in content writing. Because even the same product needs completely different messaging for different people. One audience connects with "crafted with care and tradition." Another responds to "built for everyday convenience." Same product. Different emotional weight. His takeaway is that writers who've worked across cultures instinctively adapt. Something some native English speakers never do. They know how to shift tone, phrasing, and approach to reach different audiences. They don't write *at* people. They write *for* people. He believes when writing feels generic, it's because it's written for everyone. And writing that gets results? It's always, always written for someone specific. Read the full article to see what else Shehan learned from building a global writing career from Sri Lanka.

    • A bright yellow social media quote card from TheMinCave. It features Shehan Dias, a content writer and strategist, shown as a black-and-white cutout photo of a smiling man in a white button-down shirt, positioned on the right side. The left side has two white rounded-rectangle cards with purple shadow accents. The top card displays his name "Shehan Dias" in bold black serif font with a green "CONTENT WRITER AND STRATEGIST" tag below. The second card contains a quote with a faded purple quotation mark: "Give a Sri Lankan access, and we'll meet you with grit, speed, and results. Different backgrounds shape how we tell stories with content and relate with people." Below the quote is a "Read the full article for more" button with a bookmark icon. At the bottom, a smaller white card shows a globe icon and "themincave.com." TheMinCave's logo appears in the top-right corner as a black rounded square with white text.
  • I compared two content strategy roles. One pays $40/hour and the other pays $93.60/hour. Same location. Same skill. 2.4x pay difference. Low End ($40/hour): Scope: Writing emails, coaching journalists, translating data into newsroom insights High End ($93.60/hour): Scope: Leadership, setting content marketing direction, customer engagement The pay gap comes down to: - What you own: Executing vs deciding what gets executed - What you impact: One channel (email) vs the whole platform adoption (SaaS) - Company type: Media company vs enterprise SaaS That gap is worth about $53,600/year. The lesson in this is simple. What you own determines what you earn.

    • A comparison table on a yellow background showing the difference between a $40 and $94/hour content strategy role. The table compares five criteria: Location (both Remote US), Focus (email newsletters vs. marketing automation/customer engagement strategy), Industry (Journalism vs. MarTech), Company Size (Media company vs. Enterprise SaaS), and Primary Scope (writing newsletters vs. setting content marketing direction). TheMinCave's logo appears at the top center with a crumpled paper texture overlay on the white card.
  • I analyzed 193 writing job descriptions on CaveJobs this month. Here's what tools employers are specifically asking for: AI Tools (The New Category): - ChatGPT (17 jobs) - Claude (4 jobs) - Perplexity (3 jobs) Analytics & SEO: - Semrush (15 jobs) - Google Analytics (12 jobs) - Ahrefs (11 jobs) - Google Search Console (9 jobs) - GA4 (7 jobs) Content & Publishing: - WordPress (15 jobs) - Google Docs (10 jobs) - Figma (9 jobs) - LinkedIn (6 jobs) - Webflow (5 jobs) - Canva (3 jobs) - Substack (3 jobs) Productivity & Collaboration: - HubSpot (11 jobs) - Slack (9 jobs) - Asana (7 jobs) - Jira (5 jobs) - Notion (3 jobs) If you're only good with one category, you're competing against everyone. If you know the analytics tools? The SEO platform? The AI side? You're in a different bracket.

    • Bar chart on a yellow background showing in-demand tools for writers in May 2026. ChatGPT leads with ~17 mentions, followed by Semrush (~14), WordPress (~14), Google Analytics (~12), and Ahrefs (~10). The min cave logo appears at the top center. A crumpled paper texture overlays the white chart area. Stats are from TheMinCave's analysis of 198 writing jobs.
  • I analyzed 729 jobs from the last 30 days on CaveJobs. Here's what strategy skills are paying on average: - Editorial Strategy → $80/hour - Integrated Marketing Strategy → $78/hour - GTM Strategy → $77/hour - YouTube Strategy → $75/hour - Retention Strategy → $75/hour - Campaign Strategy → $65/hour - SEO Strategy → $65/hour - Product Launch Strategy → $60/hour - AI Content Strategy → $60/hour - Social Media Strategy → $44/hour - Newsletter Strategy → $40/hour - Fundraising Content Strategy → $27/hour Same strategy work. Different labels. Different industries.

    • Social media graphic with yellow background featuring TheMinCave logo. Bold black text reads 'Strategy skills pay $20 to $108 USD per hour' with the dollar amount highlighted in purple. A megaphone illustration appears on the right. Bottom text says 'browse 1200+ content roles on jobs.themincave.com'
  • The highest-paying freelance writing role on CaveJobs right now pays $80/hour. The skill requirements? - Editing - Copywriting - Content Strategy - Digital Publishing - CMS Management It's not one skill at $80/hour. It's proficiency across multiple skills in one vertical. Compare that to a general writing role at $10/hour asking for just "Blog writing". The gap I see isn't about being an expert at one thing. It's about knowing multiple things well enough to command better rates. If you're competing on just one skill, that's the ceiling. --- Want to see what writing skills pay >$50/hour?
