In celebration of Black History and Heritage Month, Gallagher is proud to spotlight colleagues who participated in the 2025 Black Insurance Industry Collective’s (BIIC) Leadership Development Program, sharing their impactful experiences and insights. Chelsea Jocelyn, Gallagher Re, Vice President – Cyber Broking “Gallagher is a place where I can grow because of my team’s willingness to hear and explore new ideas. While working on the Cyber team, I’ve been encouraged by my manager and senior leadership to think outside the box and craft creative solutions for clients. This support has afforded me the opportunity to make an impact in the broader Cyber market. That sense of possibility was further reinforced during the 2025 BIIC Leadership Development Program. Looking around the room, I saw senior leaders from key clients, prospects, and markets who come from ethnically diverse backgrounds. It was a powerful reminder that the reinsurance buyer of today is already more diverse than ever before. I’m hopeful for the opportunity to guide and mentor others who may not have believed there was room for them here.” #BHHM2026 #LifeAtGallagher #BIIC

Today I had the privilege of attending and I am leaving both energized and affirmed. The conversations today reminded me that leadership is not defined by titles, but by trust, consistency, and the way we show up for others. One of the most powerful reflections came from a story about a leader acknowledging someone’s ability to “consistently execute their duties successfully.” That resonated deeply. Sometimes the greatest compliment we can receive is simply being trusted. Another moment that stood out was the discussion on executive presence. Instead of treating it as a corporate buzzword, we explored it as a practice of showing up authentically and consistently so people never have to guess which version of you they’ll encounter. That level of steadiness is what builds influence. I walked away reminded that: Trust is a leadership currency Consistency is a differentiator Authenticity is non‑negotiable And our presence has the power to shape rooms, teams, and entire industries Grateful for BIIC for creating a space where Black leadership is not only discussed, but celebrated, sharpened, and elevated. We are not just participating in this industry—we are shaping it.

  • During Black History Month and every month, BIIC and our partner organizations celebrate the importance of reflecting and shaping the future. We asked employees from our partner organizations, "In your own words, what does Black History Month represent, and what makes it meaningful?" Clark Brantley, Risk Management and Insurance Leader, said, "For me Black History Month represents a dedicated time to honor the impact, resilience, and achievements of Black individuals throughout history. What makes it meaningful is it preserves and elevates stories that were often ignored."

  • During Black History Month and every month, BIIC and our partner organizations celebrate the importance of reflecting and shaping the future. We asked Executive Leadership Program alum, "In your own words, what does Black History Month represent, and what makes it meaningful?" Pierce Zanders, Director, Life Customer Service, at Sammons Financial Group said, "At its core, Black History Month is about acknowledgment, understanding, and respect—honoring the full story, not just parts of it. What makes Black History Month meaningful is that it does a few important things at once, in a way everyday life often doesn’t: It corrects the record where Black history was ignored, minimized, or left out of formal education. It affirms identity and dignity. It creates space to pause and reflect. It connects past to present and provides historical context. It encourages learning and empathy. It signals that the stories matter and belong in the shared narrative. In short, it’s meaningful because it combines truth, recognition, reflection, and respect—and invites people to engage with history in a way that can shape how they think and act moving forward."

Tamarah Saif, SPHR, GBS, National Managing Director, People Development & Insights “Leadership carries the responsibility to influence, mentor, and create opportunities for the next generation. For me, that responsibility is especially meaningful when it comes to increasing representation for Black professionals in the insurance industry. Representation still matters, and I want the next generation to see that there is a place for them here. The BIIC Leadership Development Program reinforced this by helping me gain deeper awareness of who I am at my best and how to create spaces where people feel seen, heard, and supported – even in challenging moments. Being in an environment where I could openly share experiences was incredibly affirming and strengthened my commitment to fostering that same environment for others, especially future leaders” #BHHM2026 #LifeAtGallagher #BIIC

Valerie Francis, GBS, AVP “The BIIC Leadership Development Program reinforced the importance of leading with authenticity and strategic intent. It helped me better leverage my voice and influence, especially in spaces where representation matters, and emphasized the value of sponsorship, not just mentorship. As a Black professional, my identity has shaped my career by grounding my work in purpose, accountability, and service. I lead with empathy because I understand what it means to navigate systems without a roadmap, and I bring intention to my work knowing the impact access and advocacy can have on someone’s trajectory. Every role I hold is an opportunity to model what is possible, operate with integrity, and leave doors open wider than I found them.” #BHHM2026 #LifeAtGallagher #BIIC
