every now and then, something small online stops you mid scroll...not because it’s flashy, but because it quietly captures a bigger truth about learning. for us this past week, it was a painted snowplow. not from a district we partner with. not part of a formal initiative. just a group of kentucky students who designed and painted a real kytc plow blade with a winter safety message their whole community will see. last week at the kass winter conference, brooke was sitting in and jon vander els’ session on vibrant learning, and that plow kept coming back to her mind. their focus on relevance, agency, and authentic audience made that simple community project feel like a perfect example of what happens when students create work that actually goes somewhere beyond the classroom. because that’s the shift: a real audience. a real purpose. a real moment where students get to see their work move (literally!) through their community. it made me wonder how many of these “vibrant learning” moments are already happening quietly across our kentucky schools… and how many more would surface if we intentionally created space for them. sometimes the clearest evidence of learning isn’t in a rubric. it’s rolling down main street. 😎 read the full reflection on this awesome story coming out of crittenden county schools!  #fromthefield #alchemycollab #teamalchemy #kuwl #schoolpr #schoolcommunications

In district communications, we hear the same question over and over: “Isn’t content marketing just… posting on social?” Our work with RISE STEM Academy this fall reminded us why the answer is no and why the distinction matters for every school trying to build trust. What rose to the surface was a simple truth: Posting is distribution. Content is the home your story lives in. When we slowed down with RISE by building a story submission flow, a development process, and ultimately a micro-site to house their stories...something shifted. Suddenly, their content wasn’t disappearing into the feed. It was becoming evidence of who they are. And when RISE faced tough, high-stakes district decisions this fall, their community showed up. Families recognized the program because the stories had been consistently showing up. That’s content marketing. It’s not a timeline. It’s not “staying active.” It’s building a durable, owned narrative that compounds over time and something schools can link, revisit, repurpose, and use to anchor big moments. Content is the story you build. Social is ONE way you share it. For districts, separating the two creates: • Stories that don’t get lost to the algorithm • Consistent, revisit-able proof of impact • Stronger enrollment campaigns • Community trust that grows over time RISE is building that ecosystem and not by posting more, but by giving their stories a home.
