Reminder from U.S. Embassy Dhaka! The length of time an international visitor is allowed to stay in the United States is determined by the immigration officer upon your arrival, NOT your B1/B2 visitor visa expiration date. Check the admit until date on your I-94 to see how long you are allowed to stay in the United States at i94.cbp.dhs.gov. --------- ⚠️ Common Misunderstanding (Especially for B1 Visitors) Many travelers assume: “I have a 6-month I-94, so I can stay for 6 months.” Not quite. 🔹 B1 stays are purpose-driven If you are employed outside the U.S. and visiting for activities incidental to that employment (meetings, negotiations, conferences), your stay should match the time reasonably required to complete those activities. 🔹 No fixed duration like ‘6 months’ There is no automatic entitlement to remain for the full I-94 period. 🔹 Short activity = short stay If your meetings conclude in 10–14 days, remaining for several additional months—without a continuing legitimate business purpose—can create issues in future visa applications or entries. 🚫 Important Compliance Note Simply overstaying your I-94 or engaging in unauthorized activities does not automatically trigger a permanent ban. However, immigration consequences depend on specific factual findings. ⚖️ If a consular officer does make an adverse finding (including inadmissibility), 👉 challenging it can be extremely difficult 👉 obtaining a waiver is uncertain and often limited #Immigration #USImmigration #USimmigrationlaw #TheVisaCode #USVisa #ImmigrationLawyer #ImmigrationConsultant

The Visa Code reposted this
⚠️ Important Warning for U.S. Visa Applicants: Do NOT Cancel Your Appointment to Reschedule Applicants who intend to reschedule a U.S. visa interview must first check the validity of their MRV visa fee. If the MRV fee validity has expired, the system will not show the reschedule option. ⚠️ This does NOT mean you should cancel your existing appointment. 🚫 Cancelling an existing appointment when the reschedule option is unavailable will result in: - Loss of the current appointment - Inability to reschedule using the same fee - Requirement to pay the visa fee again - No guarantee of getting a similar or earlier appointment date We are seeing this issue frequently with B1/B2 applicants, especially where: - Appointments were booked 8–12 months in advance - Applicants later had personal reasons to change the date - MRV fee validity had expired by the time rescheduling was attempted 📌 Key takeaway: If the reschedule option is no longer available, it usually means your MRV fee has expired. In such cases, you should be prepared to pay the visa fee again, and note that new regular appointments may be available only after 6+ months. Making an incorrect move at this stage can set your application back significantly.
