The podcast guest economy is quietly breaking… and most people haven’t caught up yet. “If your show only works when you have a guest… you don’t have a show.” Guest swaps used to drive growth. Now they mostly create noise. The shows pulling ahead are building formats, not booking calendars. I broke down: -> Why guest episodes are underperforming -> What’s replacing them -> How to rethink your strategy going forward Worth a read if you’re serious about growth → https://lnkd.in/g6jYXXkf #podcasting #creatoreconomy #mediatrends
The Podcast Tech Stack
Online Audio and Video Media
Helping creators and networks scale with the right podcast tech stack.
About us
Over the past few years, I’ve been behind the scenes of hundreds of podcasts, working with clients like news publishers, legacy magazines, nonprofit causes, and brands across almost every podcast category from Wilderness + Sports (where I cut my teeth) to ultracompetitive categories like News + Politics, True Crime, Christianity, Business and beyond. Along the way, I’ve tested just about every podcasting tool out there — some amazing, some... not so much.

Working on a few podcast audits this week. The same growth issue keeps popping up. Most shows think distribution = publishing an RSS feed. In reality there are four distribution channels and most podcasts only use one. I break down the full map here → https://lnkd.in/gGN6UVav #podcasting #media #creatoreconomy

Behind the scenes with a media brand this week. The content was solid, while the stack was Stage 1. You can’t build a Stage 4 media company on hobby infrastructure. That gap is where much of the podcast growth we see, dies. Full breakdown in this week’s Podcast Tech Stack -> https://lnkd.in/giB7nJsH

Executives don’t ask: “How many downloads did we get?” They ask: -> Are listeners sticking? -> Is growth sustainable? -> Are we monetizing effectively? “Downloads only matter if they lead to predictable revenue and trajectory.” We show the exact metrics, dashboards, and forecasts to answer these questions in this week’s issue: https://lnkd.in/gjfZwDUb #PodcastGrowth #MediaOperators #CreatorEconomy

Breaking update from TrueFans with some really important analysis via Sam Sethi! THIS is why data matters beyond just the surface level!
The new TrueFans analytics dashboard for podcasters shows both the 'Total Play Counts' across all apps and 'Total Listen Time' broken down by app. We achieve this by streaming episodes (not downloads) both MP3/MP4 as well as HLS. However what we are now seeing are the numerous AI bots (ChatGPT, Claude, Twitter, Facebook etc) streaming each episode, sometimes for hours. To counter this we have added a 'Bot Filter' to enable podcasters to see their true 'Play' and 'Listen Time' numbers without bots. We will be adding more BOTs to the OPAWG Bot list as we identify them. #whackamole https://lnkd.in/e-fgYTe2

Many fully-monetized podcast teams aren’t so much struggling with growth as they are struggling with attribution. If your podcast attribution doesn’t tie into your CRM at the contact level, you are guessing about revenue impact. Last-click bias. Promo code delusion. Vanity link comfort blankies. This week’s issue breaks down what real podcast attribution actually requires, and why probabilistic thinking beats false precision. If you run shows, sell ads, or manage a portfolio, this one’s for you. Read here → https://lnkd.in/gHAKiP5i

Most creators think their problem is distribution. It’s actually commitment. Studios, feeds, and formats don’t compound if you treat them like experiments instead of infrastructure. Right now, podcasting is full of short bursts and very little sustained output. In this clip, Josh Lewis a studio operator/cofounder of Cincinnati Podcast Studiosits down with Cody M. and breaks down what actually happens when you stay in motion long enough. Not a growth hack. Not a platform trick. Something far less comfortable. It reframes why “starting” isn’t the hard part. And why most shows quit right before the stack starts working. How long do you think a show needs before results are even visible? And what would change if you planned for that timeline from day one? Think Apple Podcasts is just audio? Think again the times (and the podcast game) are a-changing. In today's BREAKING NEWS edition of TPTS, Apple just opened the door to video podcasts (again) but this time with a native, seamless, and monetizable product that is going to shake things up big time and create incredible opportunity for podcasters. Indie creators can finally unify audio + video in one feed on their biggest platform. Networks can monetize smarter with DAI (hello Spotify/YouTube, Apple came from behind and figured this out first? What the heck?) Question: Are you ready to rethink production and ads? We break it down right here → https://lnkd.in/gcVB9jcE

Podcast growth just got 50% cheaper and 10x more strategic. (And sorry about the late post, we're a small pub and not immune to accidentally scheduling for 5PM instead of AM our time and not realizing it until late in the day) Anyhow, onto today's news (with a breaking news article incoming tomorrow, btw) Podcast growth just got more interesting. mowPod’s self-serve tool dropped to $50 with referral (but the real opportunity isn’t cheaper downloads) For networks, we think the real opportunity is MowPod's ability to step outside the same old downloads boosting tool everyone has and turn these episode boosts into retargetable audience assets. We break down what this means for indies vs networks in today's The Podcast Tech Stack → https://lnkd.in/g5n5ddJB #podcasting #mediagrowth #creatorstrategy
