Allison Fitzpatrick, a partner at Davis+Gilbert LLP in New York focused on social media marketing, called the verdicts a “turning point." For the first time, jurors found social media giants Meta and YouTube addicted an adolescent user, causing her mental health struggles, which included depression and body dysmorphia, and Meta misrepresented the safety of its platforms. A “common theme” in both cases were internal documents and emails at Meta discussing the impact and engagement of its platforms when it comes to young users. “It’s absolutely remarkable because it’s the first time this theory that social media is a product and, as such, defective and harmful, has been successful,” Nikolas Guggenberger, assistant professor at the University of Houston Law Center, told reporter Amanda Bronstad. Bronstad also spoke with Joseph McNally, director of emerging litigation at Los Angeles-based McNicholas & McNicholas, LLP, who is a former federal prosecutor, and Morgan & Morgan’s Emily Jeffcott in Florida. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gdSX4kXt

Morgan, Lewis & Bockius associate Benjamin Brody and University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School recently co-authored a paper on last year's agreements between law firms and the Trump administration and how they impacted the legal industry. “We were really concerned and disturbed by the series of executive orders that were issued against the most powerful and largest law firms at the start of the administration taking office,” Rulli told reporter Christine Charnosky. The paper explores how these agreements between the White House and law firms violate the American Bar Association’s Model Rule of Professional Conduct 5.6(b). 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gkXPg84d
