Meet London Darce, a Recorder Program Specialist within the TWDB’s Groundwater Monitoring Department. London helps maintain our statewide network of automated groundwater level recorders. The work is hands on and wide ranging, from maintaining and installing monitoring wells across Texas to testing equipment, reviewing real time data, and working directly with landowners and Groundwater Conservation Districts. A big part of the role is making sure the data Texans rely on is accurate and reliable, and helping others understand what that data means. London also supports the Springs Monitoring Program, helping identify and equip wells that provide valuable insight into how groundwater levels are connected to spring flow, especially in karst aquifer systems. After earning a geology degree from The University of Texas at Austin, London discovered TWDB and quickly found a passion for working at the intersection of science, data, public service, and policy. “Water is life. Everyone needs water to live, but very few people stop to consider where it comes from when we turn on the tap. I have a strong desire to serve the public and work to make our world a better, safer, cleaner, more sustainable place to live.” One of the most rewarding parts of the job? Talking with landowners and members of the public and helping them understand what’s happening beneath their feet, and how they can help protect groundwater for future generations. #FacesofTWDB #TxWater #TxGroundwater

Reminder: The Texas Water Development Board is considering an ad hoc technical committee to improve greater collaboration among regional and major water providers and explore opportunities to build excess water supply capacity that benefits the entire state. This effort supports Senate Bill 7 (89(R)), which calls for stronger statewide planning and additional capacity in Texas’ water infrastructure. The concept includes creating a new “Region T” coordination layer to help advance large, long term water supply projects that serve multiple regions. TWDB would convene this committee during each five year regional water planning cycle and is seeking input on this approach. Please complete the online survey by Wednesday, March 25: https://bit.ly/4sIGOYo.
